Gas pressure jumping up and down!

Hi all,

I have an egas sly system installed in a peugeot 107. The system has a pressure sensor for the gaseous phase side.

Lately, when trying to adjust the gas pressure on the vaporizer, I noticed that the pressure would jump around quite a bit more than it used to. Previously. if it was at 1250 mbar, it would jump from 1220 to 1280. Now, it would jump from 1150 to 1350.

Can anyone suggest what I might be looking at? Pressure sensor problem? Vacuum leak? Tired vaporizer?

BTW, the car has done ~106k miles on the egas system.

Yes. pressure sensor is perhaps the least likely.

Ok, then I need to check for vacuum leaks I guess.

I just ran the car on petrol for a while. It seems to run fine. I guess that excludes intake leaks.

Since it is believed that the pressure sensor is the least likely, I am probably looking at a tired reducer.

What do I do with it? Open it up and clean it? Get a rebuild kit? Get a new one?

Andy Evans is the man who knows the Egas stuff well. I know there are lots of vapouriser problems and many changes had been made in attempts to tackle the issues.

I would suggest looking at replacing it for something else.

Have removed plenty Egas systems over the years, some due to faulty map sensors.

In my experience the Egas suppliers are frustratingly unhelpful - their line of thought seems to be 'let's try to have an exclusive dealer only system even though the system is c**p'. Years ago they said I couldn't buy an interface cable from them but could loan one for £100 deposit, then depending on the amount of tech support I needed they would decide how much of my £100 I got back - in other words it would be at their discretion how much money I got back. This conversation was on speakerphone, my girlfriend was sat beside me in the car during the chat, she laughed out load at the though of me needing tech support for any system. I simply removed the ECU complete with loom and switch and fitted a better system - any system would have been better. Eventually I made my own interface and got the software from somewhere else... Then I discovered how poor a system it really is with it's extremely basic single multiplier setting (much like Prins but even worse and without the Keihin injectors that make Prins seem a good performer).

On more than one Egas install the installers seemed to think a good place to mount the reducer would be directly to the gearbox. I had no way to check if such installs were all done by the same installer.

I have several complete Egas systems, I nearly gave one to my son for his Corsa but thought better of that idea, will be having a rummage and let him fit something else I have lying around to the Corsa instead! If you want to persevere with the Egas system I can diagnose any issue with it and could supply a second hand pressure sensor if need be, or could supply/fit a different system if needed.

I like it because it has an additional filter and also has preheating. Preheating means that I will be able to switch sooner to lpg and not have to use the temp sensor that my current reducer has.

Also, after 4 years and ~180000km and 11500 liters of lpg, do you think I should clean the inside of the tank, as well as the little filter that picks up the fuel?

No it doesn't. The heat source is the same, engine coolant.

Your Egas ECU may be disappointed if it cannot find a temperature sensor connected.
