That must be a world record record lack of depreciation. I paid £300 each for 5 brand new LHD ones in 1999.
They were overpriced at that.......

Re: for sale 1999 maestro ledbury van lpg converted..offers
I did, that's why I bought them in the first place, there was no way I would have bought them for myself. I had a Maestro 1.3 HLE as a company car in 1984 and it was the biggest pile of carp I have ever driven. The ones I bought were saloons from a batch of around 100 that were unsold returns from the Rodacom factory in Varna, Bulgaria. Some of these went to Apple 2000 in Suffolk but I bought them from a dealer in Litchfield who dealt in obscure things from Eastern Bloc countries. At the time, he also had some LHD Ssangyong 4x4s, long before anyone had even heard of Ssangyong, a few LHD Rover 600s and some Romanian built caravans (not bad but the door was on the wrong side and they appeared to be made from papier mache). The Maestros I bought were registered here at the Northampton DVLA office on N plates and we then took them to the south of France. 2 (a red one and a blue one) were bought by villa owners to be used as a general run around by villa staff and 3 (all white ones) were bought by a vineyard owner as they were cheaper than anything else he could get to use for transporting the grapes. Of the 5, I believe the red one is the only one still on the road, or at least it was a couple of years ago. The blue one rotted away as even the gardener wouldn't be seen dead in it so it ended up being used as a shed and, despite having the suspension and wheels from the van version, the 3 white ones fell to pieces long ago.
However, despite only paying £300 each for them, by the time they had been registered and taken to France, they stood us at around twice that. The 2 that went to the villa owners sold for the equivalent of £700 each but the vineyard owner was only prepared to pay £500 once he had seen and driven one. Not one of our better export deals.
You may believe in fairy stories, I don't.

and before gasbo comes along and claims that this one is a figment of my imagination too, here it is. Parked next to my Maserati and you can just make out the back of my Range Rover LSE behind it.

Wow---E type, thats takes me back...Girling brakes ,never knew if you would be able to stop (Ha!Ha!)..
I liked my jags.
first was a MK5 which I sold for £35 to pay the fine for 2 bald tyres.
second XK140 70mph in second gear fitted a limited slip dif so I could corner a bit better.
third a MK1 very nice suited the white color.
a couple MK10's and MK7-8-9's.
couldn't afford one now and I only like the originals not these latest things,I mean who ever heard of a jag estate
.last etype I saw for sale in the USA went for 250000 usd a couple years ago.If only I'd saved em.
Thanks for a memory rush with your pix...

Re: for sale 1999 maestro ledbury van lpg converted..offers
This one is a '63 Series 1 so has the Girling hope and pray brakes, however, it's got a brand new servo and a pair of Willwood 6 pot callipers and drilled discs on the front so should stop a bit better than it did originally. I say should as it isn't running yet. It's been imported from the States and has suffered the typical American standard of workmanship. It's had tens of thousands of dollars spent on it on parts but nothing put together properly. They've fitted a Mallory electronic ignition unit which comes with it's own distributor. Unfortunately the Mallory unit is negative earth and an early E is positive earth, so they've reversed the battery. This means that the electric fuel pump was sucking fuel out of the carbs and putting it back into the tank, the wipers parked in the wrong place and all the instruments tried to run backwards! So I've put the battery back as it should be, binned the Mallory unit and am now waiting for a correct distributor. Having come from the States it's rust free but the interior has suffered from the sun (either that or it's had a family of hamsters living in it) and is LHD but, as it's destined for the South of France, that doesn't matter.

Re: for sale 1999 maestro ledbury van lpg converted..offers
Yes, I've dealt with about 10 cars we've imported from the US now and have come to the conclusion that it should be made a Federal offence (or should that be offense?) for an American citizen to open the bonnet of a car.bodge-it wrote:Typical yanks

My local scrappy pays £140 a tonne, so by the time he's loaded it with garden junk, he's into a profit!
