Fuel consumption of P39 3.9 Range rover Manual

Hi

I am wondering what sort of LPG consumption is reasonable to expect from one of these? I have had so much trouble with the LPG on my ZT-T lately that I'm thinking of chopping it in.

I do mostly dual carraige way stuff plus a bit of b roads for work 80 miles per day and used to get circa 23MPG from the MG on gas.

Most of the P38 4.6 and 4.0 that I have converted do between 16 and 18MPG with the auto box. A manual so be getting 20+

With my 4.0 litre P38 auto I get roughly 15-16mpg on LPG. But that's either lots of short journeys, 80-85mph cruising on motorways or travelling a bit slower but with in excess of 2 tonnes on the hook on the back. Mines on a single point too which tend to be a bit thirstier than a properly set up multipoint.

A P38 manual? You might have difficulty finding one unless someone has swapped the box, virtually all V8s were auto.

Well it's not a P38 to start with, it's a soft dash Classic (one of the last of the Classics). 2" lift blocks will make it roll like a supertanker on corners and Insa Turbo tyres are remoulds that are horrendously noisy on the road. If you want to go offroading in it then it's fine but I certainly wouldn't want to use it for motorway journeys......

It's not a "soft dash" model. I think you'd be lucky to get 20mpg and should expect more like 16-18. If you've not driven a classic RR before they can feel alarmingly rolypoly (not a problem, just their nature) and a jacked up one obviously more so.

You're absolutely right Ross, not sure what made me think it was a soft dash when I first looked at the picture, the dash is identical to my LSE (except I've still got the cover over the fuses), same colour even.

In all seriousness, a Classic and a P38 are totally different animals to drive. The Classic feels like a proper Land Rover with an upmarket interior, almost truck-like to drive. The P38 feels like a luxury car providing some Philistine hasn't removed the air suspension and fitted coil springs so made it feel more like a Classic.
