Hi all, i am considering of converting my mazda 6 to lpg (02 year)
profess have quoted me £750 plus vat , but very concerned on the bad reviews they get on this forum
anyone tried mint lpg? to be honest i rather pay a little more and get the car converted with a peace in mind

maybe another garage i could use? looking to budget around a £1000 or maybe cheaper lol

had a quote of £995 from mint lpg on a romano system, dont know if that is any good or not

I think you will be struggleing to find a decent installer in south wales these days. Going off teh number of negative threads for both mentioned places.

You might be better off crossing the border

I think LPG installers are like builders, some are good and some end up on cowboy trap!

You carry on driving round on the liquid gold then mate. Leave the half price motoring to us 'pioneers'

and remember us next time you complain about petrol prices going up. A 1% duty rise on petrol is nearly twice that of a 1% duty rise on LPG.

As Classicswede says, there are good and there are bad. In the case of builders you go on recommendations unless you fancy risking a starring role on an episode of Cowboy Builders, the same applies to LPG installers. You either travel to someone who is highly regarded, have the job done properly and only go there once or you go on price and locality and end up going back there over and over again (or having to travel anyway because all they do is fob you off).

I would say the op has made his mind up. But hey. At least he did a bit of legwork before coming to his conclusion. Better than most. At least he hasn't gone with profess and has come here trying to get it sorted.

If the numbers are only just about making the conversion worth while then perhaps he is doing the right thing for him. Would you want to risk having your car buggered by some of these outfits, have a whole load of greif and probably end up loosing money rather than saving?


We know with a bit of home work go to the good guys and keep the car long enough you are quids in

Not going to profess or lpg mint,Too many negative posts about them two
visted lpg auto centre in swansea, they gave me a price of £1100 for a romano system. fully fitted with 1 years parts and labour warranty
they seem a good garage, but would love to hear any feedbacks from this garage if any
was told it would take 2 days to fit, which pleased me alot.
my only concern was they seemed very quiet

£1050. 24 month warranty and UKLPGA registration. But I would need the car for 4 days. You could do it in 2 days. But if you run into any problems the time is soon gone. And it has to go out as it is at that point. So you would need to take it back in all probability. You could easily waste another few days messing about before its right. Or you could get it done right in the first place ?

Bla bla bla...Profess. If I want to build a house, it'll take a long time doing it on my own. Get a squad of experts and I'll have it up in, literally, a fraction of the time (and probably better built).

I had 3 guys working on my car to have it done within the day. And 2 years and nearly 40k miles later, it's running fine, the only issue was a dodgy (Valtek) injector bank last month which I fixed for £30 - not a Profess issue.

I could have gone for a BRC kit like my Audi has, which is great, except getting parts is rather tricky. I had to order a temperature sensor from Poland because of the closed market BRC operate.

If Profess were so bad, they'd have been out of business AGES ago. And they are not. At 2 or 3 conversions a day, almost every day, the amount of issues being reported is pretty much negligible.

And Btw - LPGA Certificate means bugger all - it's not a legal requirement, they are a self promoting organisation with no legal authority.

My C36 AMG has done 30000 miles on a "Profess" conversion and on the whole I was very happy with there installation.
However I did replace the two T-piece cooling connectors with better quality cast alloy ones, due to a small leak coming from the bulkhead end connector. I also replace all jubilee connectors with better quality stainless ones. And I fitted new "magic injectors" last year due to poor idle.

I have the software and connection lead for my "stag" setup to check thing are all well, mapping etc.

So to conclude, I would say that a "Profess" installation at the time was the best option for me with the knowledge I had. And for the day installation I was quite happy to check over a few things. as yes maybe they could be stretching themselves a little.

James, thats a nice report, well rounded. So it offers the question, would you use them again? Knowing what you know now ?
As i said in my experience they seem a bit hit and miss on install quality, i suppose its all to do with whats going on that day. Personally i like everything to be just so. And wouldn't entertain working on more than one car at a time, and there is only me. So i like to take 3-4 days, but often finished in 3. Which is probably equal man hours ? Standard car, and to do a good quality job i generally bank on 18-26 hrs labour. As long as you don't run into any problems, if you do that is what eats the time.

Profess did my Subaru Impreza nearly 2 years ago had no problems at with them or the kit and the cars running 300 ponies,So in all I would say they are very good.

I had my Zafira converted by LPGWales, now in Newport. They gave me a STAG4 system, which gives me about 25-28mpg (32-40 petrol). Only problem was the failure of a component after the guarantee ran out, and as I live in Essex, I took it to a specialist (Alternative Fuels) in Barking who repaired it for £40, parts and labour. I would recommend both these garages. Cost of the original conversion was about £900. LPGWales advertise a day for the conversion, but there was a problem with the MAF sensor which made it a 17 hour marathon. Polish mechanics certainly know how to work!
