how much mpg?

#1 Post by ade-5 »

Hi folks, a little curious on how many miles I should be getting out of my 72ltr tank? I have a range rover 4.6 1998 model. Cheers in advance.

Small tank for a big car ; I'd guess you get about 57 litres in there? Around 150 miles depending, I would guess.

I get 180-200 miles out of 66 litres on a 1998 4.0 litre Range Rover on a singlepoint system. Best I've ever managed was 210 miles but that was driving like a granny. If you've got a multipoint I'd expect it to do a bit more but as it's a 4.6 rather than a 4.0 litre I'd expect it to do a bit less. So probably about the same really......

I can manage that, but only around town with the Sport button pressed and a very heavy right foot. It does seem a bit thirsty mind.

Oooh, you don't want to do that, it costs too much! My sport button only gets used on gas when I'm not too worried about how much fuel I use. However, if you are saying that you don't use the sport button on gas because it doesn't go like it should, then it isn't set up right and might explain why you're using as much as you are.

and looking at your previous thread, it sounds like you may have a leak too. Leaking diaphragm in a life expired vaporiser maybe?

yeah the sport light doesn't even light up on gas. but on petrol fine. I could probably do with it all being checked out professionally but looking at the pipes ect they look brand new and the chap did say it was serviced a few months beforehand? ???

That doesn't make any sense unless someone has deliberately done something dodgy so switching to gas disables it, it's only a simple on/off switch that is connected into the wiring to the gearbox ECU.

If someone considered that the pipes were looking shabby enough to warrant them being replaced, I would definitely suspect the vaporiser has been there for quite some time and is showing it's age. Check the date on your tank to give you an idea of when the car was converted and if it was done more than 5 years ago then the vaporiser may well be shot.

DW's problem was one that was more vehicle specific and not just a general problem, yours is likely to be aged components. Considering you can buy a new OMVL R90E for under £100 including postage (http://www.gasit.co.uk/index.php?act=vi ... roductId=6), it's not worth messing around with older kit.

Have I mised some updates on your thread? There is something you should have been asking about the setting up and I have not seen this improtant question pop up yet. Is it running and driving spot on with no quirks?
