Newbie looking some advice

Hi Guys,

I've been vaguely interested in LPG for a couple of years now but as I feel my daily is frugal enough on petrol I don't see much point at the minute. I have been tempted by this though http://www.usedcarsni.com/103721791. I've done my sums according to information that I've got on the internet and although i know I can afford it I'm in 2 minds as to the reliability of the lpg system. Also as these S4's are thirsty animals what mpg would I likely see with gas? I usually get around the book combined figure for my cars so taking that into account the petrol mpg would be 22. From peoples experience here what pitfalls should I look for? What should I ask the seller? The install looks like it could have been done better, am I right to think this?

The install looks OK from what can be seen. Going by the injectors and vapour filter I would say the system is the AFC kit.

If the car actualy does 22MPG on petrol then expect around 18-20 MPG on LPG. Still a big saving to be had in fuel costs.

Ask the seller whether it works, and if so make sure you see it running on gas - test through the rev range to make sure it runs as it does on petrol. Don't be fobbed off by "It works but has just run out of gas". Evidence of servicing on the gas system would be good, and would reflect well on the general attitude towards the car.

Then enjoy the performance for the fuel costs of a typical family hatchback!

What kind of mpg on gas have you seen from the installs you've done and what potential problems are there to look for?

18's ish i believe. All depends on how well its tuned really. If you have a hand held obd reader you can have a look at the fuel trims and see what's what.

Well, I inquired about the car. It is the dealers own car and so sold as seen apparently . Anyway it comes with a full Audi service file, no other service centers have been used bar installing the lpg which was done 3 months ago. This was done by the alternative fuel company in Auchnacloy, Northern Ireland and came with 2 years warranty. I'll have to check this out because when I talked to the installer about another car earlier in the week he said he guarantees the install for the full period that I own the car and once sold the warranty is void. It apparently gets about 18mpg on gas if driven easily, he said it was 240 to 260 miles to a tank of around £50.00 at 76.9. My local is selling gas at 80.9p . The car is apparently immaculate which it appears in the photos. It had a new gearbox fitted by audi in 2009. He is a typical used car salesman that drives the vehicles he sells, he said he didn't really care if it sold as he likes the car a lot and so there is not much movement in the price.

what do you guys think about that?

Check with your insurers about their attitude to conversions, and if/what certification they might expect to see.

Ponder who/why would get a car converted at substantial cost yet move it on in months...

I asked the vendor that very question, apparently it was a forced sale due to requiring a deposit for a mortgage. The owner didn't want to sell apparently. Unless I got to have a word with him I'd never know for sure.

I think the most important thing to note is the warranty, this will only be valid with the installer.

Also do a search on here or problems with magic jet injectors.
