What in oil

Hi,

I have a Beetle which is fitted with a Stag system. I noticed it had lost a bit of coolant and suspected the vapourizer was leaking. When I checked the oil level I found white emulsification round the filler cap. First thought is that the cylinder head gasket has gone, but I just want to check that coolant couldn't be getting into the system via the vapourizer. It is old and been problematic. If the diaphragms are leaking could water vapour get into the gas mix and cause this problem?

Grasping at straws perhaps...

I've never known a beetle that doesn't emulsify the cap tbh. I know ours is terrible for it. And every one I've ever gas converted has been the same. Bar the v5 or turbo. All the normally aspirated ones have gunky caps. Most 1600 or 2.0l golfs are also pretty gunky inside the breather pipe to the cap. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Thanks for that. Checked on a few VW dedicated sites and this is indeed a 'feature' of this and other VAG engines. Bizarre. Thanks again.

Yes it seems that way. Just a @!## breather set up at the end of the day. And coil packs, most of the VAG group are under recall at the moment for coil packs. Just the pencil coil type though. Had a skoda octavia actually set one on fire on the road test last year. When i rang the customer to tell him the bad news he directed me to a cubby hole in the boot to get a spare ! He reckoned the new ones where just as bad. So just change them as they burn out was his theory....
