LPG stalls when cold and misfires until very warm?

#1 Post by grizgut »

Please can anyone help?

I've just spent £400 on an LPG service and diagnostics on this problem and it did not fix anything :x :x

I have a VW T25 camper with a 2.5l Subaru engine conversion (professionally done). It has a 3 year old Romano N LPG system that ran very well in the summer months when I first bought it but since the start of the cold weather its not working well.

Symptoms are that when the petrol to LPG switch happens the engine immediately stalls. When the car is hot the LPG system will run but is very lump/misfires until I've been driving for about 15/20 minutes when all seems OK. The LPG garage replaced the HT leads and the spark plugs and did a service and this has had zero effect on the problem.

I stopped this afternoon when the car switched to LPG and felt the vapouriser and associated pipework and it was too hot to touch, so that appears to be OK.

Anyone got any ideas of what to look at? I believe that the injectors are user servicable, is this worth a try :?:

I think that you should change the garage !! probably does not have the correction to the gas temperature.

The temperature correction is autoset and only dealers with the 08 key can adjust the temp corrections.

I suspect the solenoids need cleaning and possibly the injectors as well. They get a build up of oily deposits that cause the solenoids to stick and not open.

in comparison with other countries England has a very good quality gas, was the worst in Germany- gas was mixed with substances that react with sealants what caused the unsealing installation.

The injectors look simple enough but how do you go about cleaning the solenoids?

Vapouriser is the main on to do. You need to isolate the tank first (should shut off automaticaly but if you have a very old valve or the solenoid does not work it will not) and the open up the solenoid.

A photo showing the engine bay shut off valve would help to identify which one you have.
