Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 Spark plugs
I am getting my car serviced soon and then at some point soonish it will be having an LPG conversion. I was going to get the plugs changed as the plug history is unknown. But my Ford dealer for some reason dont seem to be able to tell me if the standard Ford plugs are platinum or copper. Obviously I dont want to put platinum plugs in the car due to LPG. I suggested buying some NGK iridium plugs and supplying them but the service dept dont want to use non ford parts as policy. Is there any way of finding out what the standard spec plugs are made of? I dont want to take it to an independent either as the car has a full Ford service history and the local garages around here are not that great.
Any help appreciated.

I think they are irridium. Multiprong type. You may as well get the installer to change the plugs at the same time, as they will be having the plenm chamber off. And give it a new set of leads. St220 has never given me a problem tbh. So I doubt they are platinum.

Well you will be changing them then wont you?
What worried me was when I had a look on ebay at the genuine part and the associated picture, it appeared to be a single prong plug. Tried the dealers and they didnt have a clue. Might as well get them changed at the conversion time then.

Going off sparkplugs.co.uk they are platinum plugs as standard so fitting iridium plugs would be a good idea. The installer will need to take teh manifold off to correctly fit the injector nozzles and could do the plugs and leads at the same time.

Not knowing what year your car is, I can't check exactly but it does appear, as Classicswede says, that the standard plugs are Platinum. If you check here http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/pages/prici ... rs-ccp.asp with your exact car details, it'll tell you what the standard plug is and if an Iridium equivalent is available. Multi electrode plugs tend to be Platinum whereas Iridium are single electrode.

This is what comes up : Standard Part (may be Copper, Platinum or OEM Iridium)
That is clear as mud isnt it?

You can check the exact spec for the part number plug on the web site. If you know how to read the part numbers you can tell anyway.

But then it does give you the plug number (which can be decoded as Classicswede has done for you) and the number for an Iridium alternative (which it doesn't give if the standard plug is already Iridium).indyjukebox wrote:2006, Mk III

That just tells me what the NGK plug is made of right? Not the OEM?classicswede wrote:http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/pages/datab ... o=PTR5D-13

Ah I see. Silly me. I wasn't aware it wouldn't give you an alternative if the OEM was already iridium. Although I got a bit confused by this "Standard Part (may be Copper, Platinum or OEM Iridium)".

Re: Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 Spark plugs
Is that website the best place to buy plugs?
Re: Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 Spark plugs
No. Copy and paste the Iridium part number into eBay, you should be able to get them cheaper (although watch out for the postages charges).

Interesting. The part no off that website TR55IX seems to bring up sellers from the US only. Weird.
Re: Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 Spark plugs
and if you put it into Google, the only UK hit is from sparkplugs.co.uk........
Weird.

Re: Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 Spark plugs
Anyone else have any ideas as to what the right iridium plug part no's are? The ones that come up on the above site seem to be for the American market.
