Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
Hi, my first post here, so here goes, I have an SE81 on my Volvo 240 and over the last year it has needed more and more miles before I can change over to gas and run without stalling, at worst it would be about 7 miles. I found a setup manual online and have got it to run better, but now it's hesitating on pickup especially in town and around tight corners. I noticed that the idle running screw on the front really doesn't make any difference, on either extreme of adjustment, does this sound like an internal problem with the unit, a diaphragm problem?, thanks in advance.
Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
Sounds like it's running rich which is the usual symptom of a life expired vaporiser. What controller have you got on it and do you have any way of seeing what is going on? http://www.autogas-lpg.co.uk/reductor/2 ... -0260.html list the SE81 but are out of stock, otherwise you could replace it with a Bigas M84 from Tinley Tech (http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/acatalog/Re ... isers.html).

What fuel system does your 240 have? Is it carb, Kjetronic or LH?
It does sound like a gummed up or expired vapouriser. First step would be to clean any heavy ends out from teh vapouriser. Failing that I would replace it with the OMVL R90e as it gives by far the best fuel consumption of all the units I have tried.

Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
I was going to suggest an R90E but suspect they are quite a bit bigger and may be overkill for a smaller engine. I swear by them on anything a bit bigger though.

Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
Thanks for the quick response guys, it's a 93 20ltr with LH injection. I usually get 250miles on 47 ltrs. I think the whole system is Landi, but am not sure what the controller is, Emulatore LR25 ?. As for cleaning this I would have no problems doing, the lower bleed plug seems clean.
Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
You can get a refurb kit for less than £20 from Wolverhampton.
http://autogas-lpg.co.uk
It is not that difficult a job some of the 3mm studs ( IIRC ) will probably sheer but they are not crucial and do not contribute to either the gas or water sealing of the unit.
Once it is working correctly it will run with the temp sensor disconnected and you will not need to travel 7 feet before it switches over
good luck hope you get it sorted OK

Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
That sounds good, I much prefer to have a go myself and repair, do they have a phone number. You mention temp sensor, where would this be or do you mean the Volvo one.
I did try and add a pic but the quota is full.

I would try and persuade them to put it in the post if I were you, unless you need some filters as well. they prefer to use a courier
cheers Patrick
ps
sorry
the temp sensor is built into the vaporizer at 3 o'clock opposite the gas feed

A very late model in that case. Consumption sounds ok for a mixer system on a LH engine.SeanS wrote:Thanks for the quick response guys, it's a 93 20ltr with LH injection. The repair kit is only going to be any good if a seal or diaphram has packed in, if they all look OK chances are the repair kit will not cure your problem. The pivot pins do wear and they are not incuded in the repair kit.

Won't let me add a photo Patrick, but would the filter be in the unit just before the SE81 and are there others.bxman wrote:0121 439 8035.

I did find the number but they were busy and gave me a number for a girl, who was getting back to me but didn't, my question was, as they list two kits which one do I need for the SE81. If I do need filters perhaps I should get these too.
The temp sensor would be mechanical as no wires, is it just below the brass sensitivity screw. Cheers Sean.

Will keep an eye on that site.classicswede wrote:A very late model in that case. I think a good strip down is needed, but with a kit, unless it's possible to not damage the existing, pivot pins would be no problem, I can fabricate most things at my place.
Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
To be perfectly honest, as Bxman has already said and I have proved in the past, dismantling an old vaporiser will almost certainly result in sheared studs. In my opinion it isn't worth spending money on a seal kit only to find that it either doesn't cure the problem or you can't get the thing apart to fit it when you can buy a complete replacement for not that much more.

Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
would the filter be in the unit just before the SE81 and are there others.
There will be a filter built in to the solenoid cut off valve and may possibly be another incorporated by the tank.
Take a look at
http://www.landi.it
you can select English
choose product range under " products"
see if you recognize the component parts
the temp sensor is wired back to the lpg ECU
are you sure that they list 2 kits they list the se 81 itself and the kit if you look under Landi Renzo
if you look under kits
they list LANDI and LANDIRENZO its the Landi Renzo one you want
the LANDI is a totally different vaporizer do not get that one.

Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
Thanks for that, ive found the filters and they are remarkably clean. I made an order with them and sent pictures etc so hopefully they send the right kit, they did charge me 16.99 though, which is the price for the wrong kit I think
, have to see what comes. interestingly they had a whole SE81 unit in stock on Friday, but it sold that day.
Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
Ok, kit arrived, Landi Pneumatico. http://www.autogas-lpg.co.uk/-reducer-p ... -0172.html
But I'm not sure I think this is the one I need, http://www.autogas-lpg.co.uk/-reducer-p ... -0172.html

Re: Landi Renzo SE 81 getting worse
Well, since I got the kit and waiting for answers from them on whether they sent the right one, I went for strip down and found the only parts I could use were the two diaphragms, I really needed the cupped seal and the levered seal (in the other kit) but all's gone quiet and phone calls get me nowhere. Two examples of conversations, me to office..... ok I will ask the tech guy........(still waiting)...... me to tech.....you need to call the girl in office.....
