Plumbing for twin vaps

#1 Post by carl0s »

What's the usual way of plumbing in twin vaporisers, both in terms of gas supply, and coolant? I can imagine that for coolant, you would run in series to guarantee flow through both vaporisers, although the temp of the second vap might be a little lower than the first, but how do you plumb in the gas feed, and filters ?

If you are running one per bank then you just have to balance the pressure so the rails are equal. So both running 1 bar for example. If you teed them together you would be running both at .5 bar to acheive the same, bit of a waste of time that then !

Hi Tubbs. I get that bit. I was only suggesting running the coolant feed in series.

What I mean is, do I buy some sort of Y-pipe, or run two pipes from the tank, or what?

I'm running parallel.

Gas as below on mine. Balancer pipe is after the pressure/temperature sender as it has a smaller bore (10 mm) than the filters/tees (11 mm) or the pipe (12 mm). A 6 mm balance pipe would be plenty if the fuel rails had 6 mm outputs spare. Alternative layouts are suggested on the AC Autogaz site somewhere in their reference section.

Water is 20x20x16 tee into the car. 16x16x16 tee splits it to the vapourisers. Both appear to have similar flow/temperature. Channels in the vapouriser are smaller area than the 16 mm pipe ID so should balance in flows provided that the plumbing is reasonable. Closer in temperature than running in series anyhow.

Balance pipe - clever idea!

I see two gas Outputs on the vaps there, but no inputs. Should those on the left be inputs, from the tank? Are you using a T/Y-pipe just before the engine bay?

Eh ?
If you just tee'd everything together then you'd still run at 1 bar (for example).

Anyway - just tee the feed pipe wherever convenient and take to both reducers.

I think that in the first diagram, the 'C' shaped pipe on the left that goes to both vaps should be tee'd to an 8mm feed from the tank (via twin solenoid valves), and be labelled 'Gas Input', not 'Gas Output'.

The water inlets should also be tee'd together, as can the outlets, but if you connect the water pipes in series, one vap will get warmer quicker, but they will soon be running the same once the engine has reached operating temp.

On further thought, I would put the inlet water tee as close as possible to the source, and the outlet water tee as close as possible to the vaps, and feed the pressure side of the MAP sensor from the centre of balance pipe - especially if it is smaller than the main gas feeds.

I have no idea what the other two diagrams represent, but I'm glad I don't have to paint it!

I'm hopefully going to be doing my 333hp V8 soon.

I'd like to use a single vap if possible, to save all this hassle, and space.
