Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Hi guys
My 2.2 vectra has recently started to play up.
It will start on petrol switch to gas seconds later there is beep as if its run out of gas and switch back to petrol but i have all green light and enough gas in.
After couple of miles on petrol and engine will come to the temp it will switch over to gas and run on gas no prolem...
Mean while every now and then emission light will come on and go own with no effect on the power. Its says system too lean when I check the fault with code reader.
Can these two problem are linked. I hope some body here will know what the problem can be.
Your help will be much appreciated ...

Perhaps the gas pressure is a bit low.

Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Thanks Rossko how can I sort this out please help.
Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Quickest way to sort it is to take it to a pro - if it were something simple it'd pay you back in a tankful.
Not much info so I had a rummage in your old posts, I think this is a Stag system?
I'm only guessing what the problem is, nor will you be able to set anything up without more info - a special lead and software to communicate with the Stag. If you want to have a go yourself, the first thing to do is source that, so that you can see what the problem really is.

It is Stag 4 system. I thinkit needs to go to get checked out. I will take it to the garage and will update.

Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Right guys took it to AVON Auto Gas in Bristol. The system was all over the place. It was calibrated but the problem presisted but MPG improved.
A month ago I found that A hose pipe was split so not enough pressure building in the system hence taking long time to warm the system in order for it switch over to gas. SO I had the hose pipe replaced, Coolant flush and refilled. System was running great.
Went to Blackpool and back all ok. Now it has started again taking twice as long as it used to switch. I hope you guy will help.

Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Don't want to be funny, but you do realise it is colder outside this week? Everybody's system is taking somewhat longer to switch. How long?m_unawar wrote:Now it has started again taking twice as long as it used to switch. I hope you guy will help.
If messing with the water system made it better before, start there - is engine coolant level okay?
Perhaps the engine thermostat is broken, this is non-obvious in the summer.
Apart from the that the same advice stands if you want to follow it up yourself.

Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Rossko I know it is bit cold this week.
When I say long time I should have been more clearer. Basically before i would have to drive a mile or the temprature would have to be arround 80 degrees to switch but now it has to be driven for atleast 2-3 miles for it to switch.
It will do the same like when it suppose to switch it will beep and green light will flash rapidly so I go on petrol and get the temprature upto 90 and it switches OK.
Yes coolant level stays the same. May be thermostat but if it is broken the fan would not come on would it.
I think it may time to bring it down to you Rossko.

Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Nope, the item ross is referring to is a mechanical device that controls the water flow to your radiator, if it sticks open then it can cause problems with the engine running too cold and also will mean your vap will run cooler and take longer to get hot.m_unawar wrote:Yes coolant level stays the same. The radiator fan is on a themostatic switch on the radiator that is completely separate.
Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Thank you for your input Sijones.
I think you may be right. That when we changed the hose and refill the system the thermostat started to work and then got stuck in open again.
So now taking longer for car to get to the temprature thus taking long to switch to gas. I think time to change the thermostat.

Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Clarify if you mean, before it tries to switch by itself, or before you can successfully get it to switch manually. You may well have more than problem, perhaps it is taking too long to warm up - but - ...m_unawar wrote:it has to be driven for atleast 2-3 miles for it to switch.
That's not a late switchover, thats a failure. As it gets better when its thoroughly warm, that's most likely a gummed up vaporiser or front solenoid.m_unawar wrote:when it suppose to switch it will beep and green light will flash rapidly
But - a few systems (I do not know if Stag is one) will complain if the car doesn't warm up in a set time after starting. Can't really tell what its beeping about without that diagnostic laptop.

Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
I will start the car on petrol and it will fail to switch almost 95% of time, then I will have to drive for about 2-3 miles before I can manually switch to lpg.
Whats the remedy for gummed up vaporiser or front solenoied? is it going to cost me Mega £££???

Re: Lpg switch over problem green light but still beeping
Might need an tickle and strip, might need parts. We're only guessing at causes, never mind remedies. You can put with it till it gets worse, then justify the costs against running petrol.

I want to get it sorted really because I have to use petrol for half my journey. I will update if any change...
