Fitting my old BRC system to my new car?

Hi Guys,

I'm a newbe to the forum, although i have had LPG since December 2011.

I had a BRC system with yellow injectors and electronic flash lube fitted to my 2001 Subaru WRX Impreza. It never ran right since the day the conversion was done, do to with the mapping i believe, but thats another story all together!

I have recently written off the Impreza, and plan to buy it back from the insurance. My question is, would i be OK to take the LPG system off the impreza and put it on my next car? The engine bay was pretty much untouched in the accident. I'm hoping to buy a VW Golf 4motion if it is possible. Or is it recommended not to use a system again once its fitted?

I wouldnt do the work myself, and would like to pay a garage, or maybe someone from here if they were willing.

Problem is, a significant proportion of the installation costs are labour, so to get a pro to remove one kit and refit rarely makes economic sense. Especially when you think that instead of nice new wiring of more than enough length, they may have to desolder wires which then turn out to be too short in their new home. Couple that with the fact the old system may have something more fundamentally wrong with it than just mapping, and new pipes/clips will probably be needed you can see where I'm going with this...

I reckon it may sometimes make sense if doing it DIY, especially with a newish 'known' kit but not if you pay for the labour.

Isn't the Golf 4Motion a V6 engine though?

Hi, yes, the 4motion is a V6, I forgot to ask if its possible to just but a couple extra injectors from somewhere/BRC?

But, it seems like there is no need to ask, as its clear it would be cheaper and better to just buy a new kit.

When I get a chance I will be searching this forum to find out a bit more about converting a golf 4motion its all still a bit in the air at the moment, i'm not sure if I should go with a 4motion or another turbo car, or even just go diesel and not bother with LPG conversion costs...

Ive done a few in my time, they run very well on gas. I ran a VR6 non 4wd myself for a few years. It was faultless i have to say. But you had to drive like a grandad in the wet or it would eat you !

When i bought my 4Mo it had a Stag system fitted to it (from a fit in one day place(I was naive!))
Never ran right,sounded like a diesel (clacking injectors)and so lost the wonderful V6 burble.
My advice would be spend a bit more and let someone take there time over install.

You've probably got 2 x2 rails, or perhaps one 4-way rail, but would want 2 x3 rails.
Most LPG ECUs come in up-to-4 and up-to-8 flavours, so your old ECU wouldn't do.
The reducer/regulator may or may not be up to the job - your old problems may have been because it wasn't adequate for the Impreza.
Tanks from one model rarely make good use of available space in some other model.

I think i will just buy another car (once the insurance money comes through!) and have it converted. Once I have a car, i'll come back and do some searches on here to find out whats the best system for me.

I've already done a few searches, and I have to say, this forum and sharing of knowledge is great!
