OMVL Dream XXI Servicing?

#1 Post by Punx0r »

Hi guys,

I stumbled onto this forum yesterday and it seems great :)

I'm hoping someone here will know the answer to a question I've been wondering about for a while:

What (if any) servicing is required for my OMVL Dream (XXI - I think) system? The installation manual makes no mention of servicing. I couldn't even find anything that looked like a drain point on the evaporator.

Thanks,
Anthony

Liquid and vapour phase filters at 10,000 miles generally. Thats about it bar a look at the comuter to check everythings doing what it should.

Thanks for the reply :)

I assume the filters you mention are these ones?

And that there's no way or need to drain anything from the evaporator?

Thanks

Possible, depends how badly blocked they are. But you would probarbly know about it with running issues first.....running out of steam at full chat, taking a while to get there, and switching itself back to petrol are the favorites.

Thanks :)

I haven't noticed any running problems (aside from the normal cold-weather ones), but original filters must have seen three year's use by now...

Cold weather running problems aren't normal. New filters may cure it if they are clogged with heavy ends (oily gloop dissolved in the liquid gas to lubricate the filler pumps) but if it doesn't run right all the time it's drifted out of tune and needs setting up again.

Hi,

The cold weather thing is a problem that's been there from the beginning. It seems the OMVL ecu and the original engine ECU (Rover MEMS) just don't get along well. I've had a wideband lambda on the car and it's spot on when warmed up (14.7:1 AFR), but from a cold start in winter it's much leaner, once it gets to 21 or 22:1 it starts gentley missfiring (you can smell the unburnt gas) and the idle starts bouncing up and down as the MEMS ecu tries to stop it stalling - which it will do if it's bad.

Richening the mixture in the OMVLA software would make it richer at all temperatures, and MEMS seems to just use the lambda sensor to lean it back again to achieve 14.7:1 when warm.

The funny thing is that in very cold weather, even when the engine is fully warmed up (say, driven 5-10 miles) it can sometimes act up - jerky at low speed. It seems to be the temperature of the LPG tank that makes the difference. I keep meaning to compare the gas pressure in the software in summer Vs. winter.

As something of a bodge I wired a 5K pot in series with the engine coolant temperature sensor to give me a manual choke  It does help quite a lot for cold starts.

It puzzles me a little because LPG shouldn't need cold enrichment!

I'll certainly change the filters :) I can't expect it work properly if it's gunked up!

Thanks again,
Ant

Hi again guys,

I finally remembered about these filters around a month ago, but when I went to order, the liquid filter was unavailable:

A lady from the shop told me they were having trouble sourcing them. I've waited a while but it seems they haven't managed to do so.

Can anyone recommend a retailer that stocks them?

Thanks,
Ant

Tinkey tech. Its just a standard omb type filter. Nothing special.
