Zafira,s and valve seat recession

#1 Post by rederv »

Hi all, new on here.

I am an auto engineer with only limited lpg experience of single point systems of 30 years ago.

My questions are

1) In your experience do Vauxhall Zafiras suffer from (VSR), I am looking to buy a low mileage 09/59 model 1.6 or 1.8 to convert

2) Which kit would any of you recommend to hopefully be professionally fitted in the South Wales area

Thanking you all for any input

Whats the engine code ?
Im just the other side of hereford and would be happy to quote you.
Also Tommo in Monmouth. He is another reputable installer who is on here.
We both fit good quality Italian injection systems.

Hi tubbs,

Thanks for the reply I pm'd tommo re a price but he has not got back to me yet.

I do not know the engine code yet but the car i am looking to buy is a 59 plate 1.6 105 bhp 20,000 miles.
Do these engines require lube system?
And which italian system do you fit?

Thanks

A 59 plate car will in all probibility require a flashlube system. The system i fit is called EMER. Based around the AEB ecu.

Mine done in Cardiff by LPG Wales. www.lpgwales.co.uk
Tubbs and Tommo are here for help as well. on a Honda they did fit Flash lube system for extra £76 ( all together came to £980)
I remember seeing fork lifts back in 1973 working on LPG. so basically its not so big deal BUT professional instillation is a peace of mind. False economy do not work well.

Best wishes

Really? I've fitted 2 lpg systems now, both worked well, and the first car has been sold on still working fine, my other car is working fine and paying me back now quite quickly because I bought the kit cheap and fitted it myself therefore saving labour! and the car isn't very high mileage so a professional fit wouldn't have really worked.

Also there is many a DIY'er on here that has fitted there own.... John stands out in my head and who is looking at fitting his next one.

And PC's are not getting harder or more complicated, the os is still windows and windows is all the same, things just move round a bit, so i disagree with your xp comment, i just think you've come to your limit of knowledge and now have to let others do stuff for you because it's beyond you.

The XE engines don't need flashlube . Most VX after 2004 are XEP or SEP? engines .
If you put your reg into Eurocar parts it will tell you the engine code or it used to. If yours is 2009 then it will not be XE unless they had loads of leftovers and put them in company car orders cheapley . Vauxhalls after 2004 need Flashlube , pre that date with the XE engine does'nt. There are stickers on the engine that tell you the code.
I don't know much but the experienced installers on here have always said the same about Vauxhalls. Good luck.

jaafar, why are you here? Or at least why are you posting your opinions? We've already established that while you seem scared of LPG and wouldn't consider touching it yourself, most of the others on this forum have the skills and confidence to do it themselves. Even if they are newcomers to automotive LPG, others may be skilled in other aspects and, armed with the advice with the professionals and other DIYers on here, have successfully completed their own LPG installs.

But, everyone has their limitations and I'm not saying that anyone could install an LPG system into their car, only those that are capable. I've done 3 self build housing projects and am capable of doing the electrical wiring (and qualified to do it), plumbing, carpentry, roofing, etc but I won't do bricklaying or plastering. I've tried both and cannot do it to the standards of a pro so have left it to them. It's no different with cars. I've rebuilt engines, gearboxes, steering, brakes, suspension and even built a car from scratch. These skills, knowledge and experience mean that I am easily capable of installing an LPG system but I work with engineers who are highly skilled in their own field but still take their cars into a dealers for a service because it is not their field of experience or knowledge, something I will never do. We are all individuals with different skill sets. If your skill set is such that you don't feel confident that you could something yourself then leave it to a professional, but I am sure that in other matters you would have the skills, competence and confidence to do something yourself. It's down to the individual.

ok, i've ignored your previous comment about me showing off but now am getting annoyed.

How am i showing off? Because am an IT Expert? Because I can apply my mind and learn things and then do them myself?

There's nothing showing off by encouraging people to do things themselves, which is all I am doing, you on the other hand seem intent on telling anyone on here that they should seek professional installation.

Well, I'll tell you now, if you have nothing constructive or helpful advice, don't bother posting. DIY'ers looking for help are not wanting to be told by you to take it to someone who they will pay.

As I and Gilbertd has said, just because you pay someone doesn't mean they will do a good / safe job, they should do it properly, but that ain't a certainty, and that is no reflection on the installers that are on here to help people, there are just some cowboys out there.

Perhaps you should hang around the recommend an lpg professional bit of our forum, that seems more suited to your posting.

Woah, let's not forget it's a perfectly valid opinion. The majority of LPG consumers do not DIY, that's what keeps hundreds of converters in a job.

It's not hard to find advice and supplies for DIY for anyone with the desire, Google "DIY LPG" is easy and informative, and of course this forum is one of the useful resources. But most don't want to DIY. For those uncommited, it is sensible to point out the alternatives, the benefits and drawbacks.

I may misunderstand, but I didn't think this forum was specifically aimed only at DIY either - it seems to work just as well as a place to ask for consumer advice about pro conversions or "factory" cars, and should not be dismissive of consumers choosing those.

Just ignore each other :)

I take every thing on board. No hard feelings at all.
difference in opinions is a healthy thing. If any one get upset because I or the others disagree with him/her then I am not so sure what to say in that respect.
In other posts I did wish the DIY ers good luck and I did say Tubbs and the others are always handy for advice.

I don,t know where this post has ended up, but can anyone categorically tell me if these vauxhall engines are prone to VSR. I do not want to ruin a new motor. Would it be safer to have flashlube installed anyway if I go ahead with a conversion

thanks
