2004 Dual Fuel Corsa NECAM SYSTEM fuel pump not cutting off

I say NECAM system the only clue I have to that is that there is a necam fuel filter apart from that I can't tell how to determine if the rest of it is necam or not, can anyone point me to where the box of tricks is usually fitted?, I see the regulator but there's no name on that either.

I don't know if it is supposed to but it strikes me that it would be sensible for the fuel tank fuel pump to cut off whilst driving on LPG.

I have recently noticed the fuel pump has been whining quite loud, I never used to notice this.

The petrol tank was very empty for a long time, since I put 10 litres in there the pump still running but quieter muffled a bit. I imagine if it is now submerged in petrol or half submerged it would be quieter.

Is the fuel pump supposed to shut off?

How about I rig up an inline switch to the fuel pump, so I can switch it off myself from the drivers seat when I want to?

BTW I should also renew the filter, where can I buy one best price? and does it **have to be** necam or are there cheaper equivalents?

1) No, it should run all the time
2) You can but one day when you run out of gas it will run like a dog on petrol because the injectors have been overheated. The petrol pump runs all the time to keep the fuel circulating and to cool the injectors. You should never run the petrol too low or you can burn out the fuel pump. Sounds like you came very close but haven't yet. Always leave at least a quarter tank of fuel in it.
3) Filters should be replaced every 10-20,000 miles. See if you can see anything here http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/acatalog/Fi ... ments.html that looks like yours.

I just ran it on petrol and all seems fine, I will top up with atleast another 5 litres petrol.

If the pump is on,..... the petrol is not going through the injectors otherwise it would go into the combustion chamber no?
So it will be going round the recycling pipe back to the tank, is it really required to keep the petrol flowing? I just find the noise annoying and wish I could turn it off.

You can if you wish, the risks have already been pointed out to you.

If it's loud enough to hear it, it's probably on it's way out anyway. You wouldn't normally hear them or the whole world would be complaining about it. Don't be a cheapskate, bung 20 quids worth in at least, you'll use it up sooner or later as it starts on petrol anyway.

You shouldn't really hear the pump, so i'd say because you have ran it dry it's made the bearings noisy, maybe replace it for one off a scappy....

Otherwise you will be well stuffed the day you stop to fill with gas and find the only garage for miles has run out and your petrol pump isn't working. The AA membership comes in handy but you'll still have hours of hanging around waiting for them to turn up.
