ford transit 2.3 petrol lpg poor running

hi my lpg transit will run ok on lpg up to about 50mph then for no apparent reason it will turn its self off and i have to stop the van switch off the ignition turn it back on again and it will be ok some times it will run at 60 70 mph with no problem but then will start playing up again any suggestions would be gladly received thanks pete

looks like the pump is on it'sway out these pumps last about 40,000 miles.you can get a new one from fuel pumps online

turning itself off, i presume you mean the Vaporizer?

If it is the pump, the cheapest place for them is here http://www.cardo-parts.pl/index.php?p19,erj-173 . At roughly £40 even with postage that's still about a third of what you'd have to pay here.

these pumps are from poland,the fitting instructions are in polish!

But they are genuine Walbro pumps and if you don't know how to fit it you shouldn't really be playing with it. £40 from Poland or £150 from a UK supplier, which would you choose?

Although there have been horror stories about some Polish components or full systems, there have been as many (based on a %age of systems fitted) for locally produced systems. On the whole I'd go for the Polish one on the grounds of price differential and try to get hold of the fitting istruction for a similar system. In practice nearly all systems tend to use the same colour coding for the wires, so it should be simple to transpose between them. Especially as most fitting instructions contain line drawings of where each coloured wire goes as an aid to correct connection.

I can't see how you'd need instructions to replace a Walbro pump with another Walbro pump no matter where you bought it from.....

Hi Pete,

You state your Transit is the 2.3 therefore it will be the Necam system that is fitted so there is no pump on that system (unless you have the very rare 2.3 with the Vialle system of which I have only ever seen 2 that were made between 2000 and 2006)
The usual problem with the Koltec tripping back on the 2.3 Transit is that the oxygen sensor is showing a lean condition so the system assumes it is out of LPG, this could be simply a faulty oxygen sensor, however in my experience it is a faulty stepper motor not opening far enough to expose enough of the grooves in the distributor so causing a lean condition under load, or a faulty Vapouriser with too low pressure.
There are a number of other things it could be but these are the main culprits.

Hi I would think you need to check the regulator pressure first then have it pluged into the LPG Ecuador through Monio .
Regulators are normally good for over 100k before they give bother............
Also when was the last time it had an LPG service ?
You may even be looking at an intermittent solenoid failure.
I have seen the rpm filter cause this , look at the rpm signal and if it's incorrect then replaced rpm filtr ( under dash ) .
I have also seen on a pick up transit 2.3 there is a non return valve in the copper feed line failing.

The best place for advice or if you are in Scotland is Sme Autogas 0131 4433372 they do a lot of work on the Necam system......
