Range Rover L322 Looking For LPG Installer South Yorkshire

Hi,

My first post here since becoming a member, however i've been a bit of a lurker till now. I own an L322 Range Rover 4.4 V8 that i want to have converted to LPG. Car is a 54 plate having covered just over 70k so seems like an ideal time to have converted. I'm looking for an installer in or around the South Yorkshire area, i'm actually based in Doncaster but travel isnt an issue if the right place can be found. I've done a bit of calling around and prices fluctuate a fair bit, have had quotes ranging from £1300-£2500 so far.

Has anyone on here had one done on the same vehicle and can recommend a good company who can carry out this installation. I would rather go on a good recommendation rather of someone who is happy with the job that has been done to be honest. The couple of companies i've spoke to say they have done a few of the same vehicle before but timescales also vary from a day (which is worryingly quickly) to 5 days.

Also i would like to know opinions on what system would be best for this car, the range rover forums seem to swear by either a PRINS or BRC installation. Is this definatley what i need or are some other systems as good? I'm looking to get this done asap really, so would really appreciate some feedback

Dan, it's the age old debate, is prins better, is BRC better. Personally I fit Italian systems, they are just as good in my eyes both for longevity and running. I believe we have had this debate a few times. And it's actually down to not only equipment but also installer choice. I was chatting to someone about a v6 on here, the thread was 'misbehaving injectors' I beleive, same company, same equipment but the injectors where installed in a different place. One had loads of problems, ended up changing the injector rails twice. Other chap has had no problems whatsoever. The only difference was injector placement. Obviously it's customer choice at the end of the day. Prins is seen as a 'premium' brand. BRC are very good marketeers. The system is no better or worse than many other Italian systems that are considered mid range. But hey that's just my personal view. For example I would charge £1550 all in with an electronic flashlube, I would need the car for at least 5 days. But that's just me. I'm sure other companies could convert it quicker, but it's about attention to detail. I've done a few, they have all been good. I've never seen them again, but I did have one in for a service the other day. It had covered just over 20k in a couple of years. No issues with it at all, but it had a couple of very dirty filters !

This guy did a very good conversion on my Jeep Grand Cherokee back in '06. Although his core business was in manufacturing and overhauling overdrive gearboxes there just isn't enough call for this so he turned to LPG fitting (he's fully qualified and registered) to maintain a decent income. Almost overnight it became the main part of the business with the overdrive work becoming almost a sideline.

Ps. Back then he fitted a Dream XXIN system. What he uses these days I couldn't say.

Prins is not regarded as the market leader for nothing,the quality of its componants are far superior to any other system available,it will perform faultlessly and out last the car not the warranty period!!.

Your local installer is a guy called John Padgett @ Carcroft garage. Google for details.

Be aware that the air suspension pump will have to be relocated and will be slightly more noisy than normal.
The BMW V8 engine does NOT need a valve lube system.
Expect to pay £2k +vat for a Prins install.

This might seem a very stupid question but, I have a 2003 Honda Legend 3.5 V6 with Zavoli LPG system fitted. I have bought a flashlube kit for it that I will fit myself but where is the best place to fit the inlet so that both banks of the v get the required amount of fluid.

Thankyou everybody for your very useful contributions to this thread. I have decided to go with Autogas Yorkshire in Hull, having it done after the new year now however. Anybody dealt with them and have good or bad things to say?

I am a fitter just North of Doncaster, just South of Pontefract. My company is LPGC (feel free to Google that).

Many customers come here having handed over lots of money for ineffective repairs to LPG systems at other installers in the Doncaster area. What usually happens is the customer goes to the other installers around here, is charged a substantial sum for 10 mins worth of diagnostics, and is then told 'you need a new system mate - that system was @!## when new anyway'. Then they come to my company and we fix their vehicle for less than the price that the others charged to tell the customer 'you need a new system'.

In my view, what these other companies should be saying to the customer is 'don't come here we're Prins snobs and will tell you that you need a complete new LPG system (Prins) by default'

I know who usually installs Prins around here and I know their very high prices for anything from a full install down to a service. The last time I checked, they were charging double to convert most vehicles that my company charges. I once called them to ask about converting a P38 RangeRover just to check out the competition and was given some real waffle about look under the wheel arch at a plate and if it says one thing it can be converted if it says another thing it can't be converted because the engine will be low compression. Almost laughable because I had already very susccessfully converted dozens of RangeRovers with both types of plate under the wheel arch! What they meant, was that Prins didn't make a plug and play system for that model. I asked how they converted turbo'd vehicles if low compression engines cannot be converted - They hesitated and avoided a direct answer. I don't think they have the skills to calibrate LPG systems. When other vehicles have been there for diagnostics then come here, I have noted that the injector break plugs have been swapped around (on AEB based systems) - sabotage in other words. The installers that I am talking about are well known for charging sky high prices and are often talked about between suppliers and other installers for their high prices and lack of success at repairing vehicles.

Prins got it's good name due to just one of it's components - the Keihin injectors. Keihin injectors were reliable, linear and flowed well at a time when most LPG injectors were unreliable and poor performers. Without the Keihin injectors, Prins would look a poor system in my book. And Keihin injectors can be fitted to other systems that have more reliable reducers and more capable ECUs - But other injectors have caught up to Keihin injectors so there's no need to pay Prins prices or their installers prices for anything LPG anymore.
