1992 Range Rover running poorly on LPG

Hi,

I am fitting an AEB 175 kit with Pitagoro emulators onto the Range Rover.

I can get it to switch over to LPG but it sounds like it's got a misfire and there is quite a strong smell of petrol fumes from the exhaust. I can see the lamda sensor is working ok and it flicks between rich and lean. It runs perfectly on petrol.

I am guessing there could be a problem with the injection emulators. Do I need to modify the RR injection wiring in any way? Is there a way of testing the emulators?

Anyone experienced the same problem?

Sounds like it. Have you got the plug in loom so the emulators simply plug in line with the existing injector cables or have you hard wired it? As a test, get it running on gas and then pull fuse C4 (10A) which will kill the power to the petrol pump and EFi unit. If it runs OK with that out, you know that you are not turning of the petrol injectors.

They are plug in loom type. Just pulled C4 and it did start running correctly. I will double check the harnesses and connections tomorrow. If they look good I will replace the emulators. Thanks very much for the info.

Make sure you've got a 12v feed to the emulators when it switches or they won't do anything.

Hi,

As gilbert says make sure you have 12v feed at the emulators when it is switched to gas, you will have 2 emulators, one for each bank of 4.
They will both have a blue wire for the 12v feed and a black wire for the earth, if either the earth or the 12v is damaged then you will still be firing the injectors as well as gas going in there.
It sounds like you may have one bank that is still firing the petrol injectors, the main time I see this is bad soldering where the blue wire is split to feed both emulators or a bad earth.
Another way to test is to use a mechanics stethoscope (or the old trick with a screwdriver) and listen to each individual injector, if any are still clicking while it is on gas then that confirms your fault.

I haven't had chance to check it yet - very busy couple of days.

I'm pretty sure it will only be one emulator that has failed as the lambda reading was normal, the lambda is fitted to the left manifold downpipe. The right emulator/wiring has failed.

Will let you know how I get on.
