new car time
Hi all,
Been running my Astra VXr for 90k, and 4 years. The car is uprated to just shy of 300bhp 28PSi overboost and runs 21PSi constant and runs a Prins kit. Apart from a faulty 4bar map sensor, vapouriser rebuild and a set of brown injectors. First 2 parts failed due to the stupid pressures I run and the injectors were a pre-prod set or something like that
So new car time. I was going to keep the car a lot longer but I have been suckered into the ads for the new Astra VXR coming out in a few months. It is 280PS in standard form with a 4 cyl turbo engine but the thing is it is a direct injection fuelling.
I have looked on the Prins website and have seen the Direct LiquiMax system which I think would suit this setup. Not sure so thought I would throw it to the forum for opinion. Does anyone know for sure what happens with the Di engines. I have heard on the grapevine that some people have tried traditional kits on these cars and the standard petrol injectors have failed due to the heat when not in use. So I also heard that the new gas kits use the cars petrol injectors. All hearsay so I would like to know for sure
Hoping to run this car standard but I have said that for the last few cars. There are 400bhp and 500 bhp kits out there for this motor from the states so I may have to factor in the ability to increase the power of the gas kit in the future

Re: new car time
Hi andy they will need the car do make a DI kit for that car
I would say they might have a kit for the engine as its used in a lot of cars or would like your car to make a kit for it
its been around for a few year's now
in the insig and the 2seater in germany
as well in lots of GM cars from the US

Re: new car time
Prins do indeed have a DI system[anyone watch BTCC]but and there always is one, it is very much vehicle specific ,its also not been released yet,the range of vehicles it will be available for is limited, mostly VAG and Mazda , but there is a good chance of the GM being on the list as well .
It does use the petrol injectors so it will start from cold on gas and the only time you will nedd petrol is if you run out.
There will be no HP issues either as it is injecting a liquid
.The team AON ford focus was producing 308whp when we was at brands last year,it was also detuned to improve driveability according to one of the drivers dad.

Re: new car time
Danny, didn't know you are on here this is a secret, no blabbing to the lads lol
Woody, cheers for that. I knew about the AON car in passing as was not watching BTCC then.
Perhaps I could get the UK tech guys to do the work and get Prins to stump up a few quid for development work. We did that with my first gas turbo car 6 years ago
Will make some phone calls and see what comes up

Re: new car time
No probs andy
do what you did with the car last time
as the insig and mk6 engine is the same unit
you can buy some nice parts from the US market on them now EFR turbo and manifold's a lot cheaper then the uk tuners want
and E85 kits for the engine also

Re: new car time
with the Zaffy GSi I got it converted then the problems started as it one of the first turbo cars to be converted (pre turbo kit available) The car went back to the converter and they spent a week doing things to it under the supervision of Prins
Could do the same this time.

Re: new car time
remove the kit off the VXR and bung it on the zafira dead easy to you have a inletmanfold off the new engine ?
just mount the tank like on your blue one and run some 8mm copper pipe in the oem clips

Re: new car time
danny, that is off topic mate. I will gas the red Zafira at some time but it is not a rush at the moment, that car has only covered 500 miles in nearly 3 years
Re: new car time
I was reading myself last week about the Prins DI system. It came about from ebay and I found a new Skoda Superb TSI that runs the system.
The dealer advises that to keep the petrol injectors cool whilst running gas they put through 5 -10% petrol as well.
Here is the info

Re: new car time
well I hope that the gas usage goes down a fair bit then. 10% petrol usage is quite high but I suppose that also means less trips to the filling station. Just more fill ups of petrol. Read that the gas is more efficient this way, wonder if that is just because they omit to tell you about the petrol....

Hi , thats the Prins VSI DI system which is a vapour injection system hence the need to run a lpg petrol mix, the dedicated LIQUID Di system injects liquid through the petrol injectors ,negating the need to use petrol at all. as i said before its not got a release date as yet.

Re: new car time
This talk about Liquid DI sounds interesting.
Does anyone know if it'll be possible to retro fit in into cars running sequential with vaporisers? The concept soudns pretty exciting, but i'm doubting I'll ever be able to benefit unless I rip out everything and start again?
Will this be the type of kits that is only ever car specific? I'm not quite getting how the power is not affected - does LPG only have lower calorific value in gas form, but the same as petrol when it's a liquid? Sorry for hi-jacking. If this should be a new thread mods, please jsut remove this
Edit - for retro fit, I'm now assuming a car with direct injection, which I'm just realised I don't have. What a bummer

Re: new car time
a DI engine has the petrol injector's in the head not the manifold
with the older engine's they have the injectors in the inlet manifold spraying in to the combustion chamber over valve's
Di is spraying into the combustion chamber
