thanks

19.2 mpg (275/65x4.54). However, if you are talking about equivalent cost rather than equivalent mpg, assuming £1.35 per litre for petrol, it works out at the same running cost as if it was doing 36mpg (19.2x1.35/0.72) on petrol.sammyv23 wrote:i pay 00.72p PL

People quoting equivalent cost mpg rather than actual mpg only goes to confuse people. You'll see adverts for things like a Range Rover V8 with comments like, does 35mpg on gas and the uninitiated think that not only does gas cost less but you use less of it too which isn't the case.

I have a 4.7 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I get roughly 3.25 mile per litre. The current cost of LPG in my area is about 70p so for a tenner I get roughly 47 miles (approx 14mpg - mainly town/short drives).

just got my jag xj6.
quite disappointed in consumtion!
working out just fuel cost per mile...
LPG = 15p/mile
Petrol = 16-17p/mile
Hardly worth the difference! I pay 74p for lpg, and 130p for unleaded.

I make that 22mpg on gas (which doesn't sound surprising), 35-37mpg on petrol (which sounds rather good!) What engine does it have?jagman wrote:just got my jag xj6.

As you've just got it, and presumably been running on LPG most of the time, to get accurate mpg figures on petrol it may be an idea to brim the petrol tank a few more times (if you can afford it!) in case the petrol pump cut off was more sensitive from one fill to the next.

Re: How far do you get with LPG? eg. How many miles for £10
well im going to run on petrol full tank this week to get a true comparison.
but with the 3.0litre engine i reckon the price of lpg now means it just isnt worth the hassle.
it does roughly 19-20mpg just lpg which is about right. unless you can get lpg for unduer 65p or something how can that be exciting! my old 2.7l diesel merc did almost 50mpg - but that was a disappointing car to own. but one tank could take me 650 miles or more!
and with lpg i need to fill up every 2 days - bit of a pain really. i should have done more research frankly. no website really tells you the full picture.
i know autogas farms do cheaper lpg but no where near one here nr london unless someone knows better.

So you've ruled out the possibility that the LPG system is neglected or otherwise poorly, then?

Assuming the X300, 3.0 litre V6, XJ6, Parkers reviews reckon it should do 27 mpg on petrol so you LPG figure should be around 22 mpg. How are you getting the petrol figures which do seem wrong unless you are driving it extremely economically. If you are getting these figures from the computer, that confirms that the gas system is out of tune as it is causing the petrol ECU to lower the petrol injector times to compensate for the gas tune.
The 3.0 litre XJ6 isn't particularly economical at the best of times, the engine is underpowered for the car. A friend runs the supercharged 4.2 litre V8 version on gas and gets a consistent 19 mpg on LPG which compares with the quoted petrol figure of 23 mpg. He's got a 100 litre tank installed and has a range of well over 300 miles.

Ooh, I don't think thats entirely fair ... the V6 should be in an all-ally car (X350) I found it lively enough, though its not as 'relaxed' an engine as the old 3.2 V8Gilbertd wrote:The 3.0 litre XJ6 isn't particularly economical at the best of times, the engine is underpowered for the car.
jagman:
It is true you can't get a big tank in an XJ6/8 without seriously compromising the already limited boot space, it's a nuisance but that's a quality of the XJ not LPG in general. The original install customer made that size choice for you.
I think at the root of the complaint here is the reportedly high petrol mpg, which as you've probably gathered no-one quite believes.

Re: How far do you get with LPG? eg. How many miles for £10
If it's truly costing 16-17 pence per mile whilst on LPG, I would be very happy with that personally, considering I pay 16 pence per mile on a 1.9 diesel car averaging 40+mpg!

1988 BMW 325i M20 2dr 21-22mpg on gas (economy not considered when driving best 28mpg)
2002 BMW 330i M54 estate 23-24mpg on gas - (driven smoothly albeit faster than most)
250 miles from both, toroidal tanks in the wheel well.
