Romano RISN and Firing Order

#1 Post by s80wkr »

I have a few questions about the Romano RISN wiring

Image

Here we have the wiring diagram for a Romano RISN

It says "the blue black and blue wires must be positioned at the gas injector marked A" does mean that it should be connected up to cylinder No.1?

I am using single injectors and not a rail does this matter?

Does the position of the other injectors matter or can any of the other three sets of wires go to any of the other petrol injectors?

Also with the rpm reference does this have to be connected to Cylinder No. 1 or will and do?

Thanks in advance!

I believe this is an AEB re brand so same wiring as mine - if am wrong someone pull me up on this!

The wiring to each cylinder doesn't really matter, but on mine I did it in order, yellow being 1 for me and then the rest, then the gas injectors are then plugged in the same order, so when cylinder 1 fires the petrol injector the same gas injector fires, that's the important bit, you don't want the wrong gas injector firing as the cylinder won't be on the inlet stroke.

I cut mine on the loom where it plugs in to the socket to the main loom.

Your rpm wire you connect to your coil on the negative side or to ECU tacho feed.

Thanks for your quick reply

I have individual coil packs on the plugs so put it on the negative on cylinder 1

Right so the colours do not matter all that much as long as the gas injectors are connected up to the petrol right injectors.

I cant see where it tells you which wires are for which gas injector on the grey cable

I have the following colours in the grey cable and how they were connected before which may or may not be correct?

Black/White [Possible 1]
Red

Red/White [Possibly 3 or 2]
Red

Orange/White [Possibly 3 or 2]
Red

Blue/White [Possibly 4]
Red

Thanks

Is it one solid block of coils that sit on top of the plugs? How many wires does it have?

Not really but I would follow the order that they are listed so yellow = 1, green = 2, red = 3, blue = 4

My loom had plugs on for each gas injector with a number on, are you saying you just have wires?

the easiest way is to it in the order they are in the diagram. Take the blue wires to injector/cylinder 1, red to 2 green to 3 and yellow to 4. The connectors for the LPG injectors are marked A B C D. A will go to cylinder 1. B to 2 C to 3 and D to 4

These are the coil packs each has three wires

1 - Switched Live
2 - Earth
3 - ECM/ECU

Unfortunately there are no connectors on the end of the loom as a different gas rail was fitted with non Romano injectors a while back.

Just spoke to a helpful chap at Autogas Worldwide

Orange/White & Red is A
Blue/White & Red is B
Red/White & Red is C
Black/White & Red is D

Ahh, can only say wire it up and see what happens, I dont know if your software will allow you to say it's one impulse per turn but have a play and see, there is other ways though, like connecting to the tacho feed from the ECU or using diodes across each coil but keep it simple for now.

The gas ECU should be able to pick up the engine RPM from the petrol injector pulses - you could try leaving the brown wire off and seeing what happens.

looking at the diagram you hacve posted, you have the pinouts wrong.

3 is switched live
2 is earth
1 is signal. (the one you require)

The romano system will not pick up its rpm from the injectors. you do need the brown wire. if it does not see the RPM signal, after 15secs all the lights on the switch will go out.

Sorry for misleading you there - I had made the (wrong!) assumption it was the same as my OMVL system (which has identical wiring diagrams), which states that the RPM wire is not always needed.

Proper RPM sensing is usually wise, even if you are able to test the system without. Practically every car simply switches the petrol injectors off when overrun/coasting.
No injection, no RPM, failsafe back to petrol mode. When injection resumes, burn petrol for a while until changing back to LPG later ...
