Economy Check

#1 Post by hdpete » Thu Mar 10, 2011 1:05 pm

Hi,

I have just had the Prins VSi system installed and by my calculations I'm getting the following:
  • - Previous average of 17 MPG on Super98
    - LPG 12.6 MPG (based on 200 miles over 72L (15.84 gal)
    - This equates to 26% loss through the way LPG burns.
Does this seem a reasonable loss to you?

I would have expected a slightly lower loss, so more miles per tank on gas. However, no two pumps run at the same pressure so you may find a variation in the amount that goes in depending on where you fill up. Also, the amount you get will differ with temperature too. So checking on just one tankfull is not strictly accurate, your tank may not have been completely full on the initial fill up but is now.

I keep track of all my fill ups on http://www.fuelly.com/

I know that I average 24.6mpg (and that's over 19,780 miles so far)

Running my car on petrol I get approx 28-29mpg (BMW 525) on average runs around town. This drops to 24-25mpg when on LPG also using a PRINS VSI system. This averages somewhere between 12%-17% loss.

The one thing I did notice was that the % loss increases on a long run. On petrol I can get 35-38mpg but only 28mpg on LPG which is a 20% loss.

Still I am only paying 66p a litre compared to 131p for petrol so it equates to 49mpg for a 200bhp car :)

Looked at their website and their logo on the map appeared to be near west quay.
As I was going to Soton General Hospital I thought I'd have a fill up.
Set the Satnav from Poole and was surprised that it didn't take me down the M271. Never mind, I thought, it's got a different plan. When it finally took me off the M27 at Bursledon I knew summat was well wrong.
Miles out of my way but I finally found it and at 69p, the price was worth the extra travel.................... well it would have been if they hadn't just run out!!!!
