Is this real

#1 Post by bodge-it »

Hello all,
1st post onto the forum so novice all round... ( please advice of my mistakes ) ... don't want to upset..Hope this post is in the correct place...sorry if not

I've just been looking at vauxhall's figures for petrol vs lpg on the zafira 1.8ltr and wonder if anyone finds it strange:

extra urban-- petrol 43.5mpg current price round here £1.30
extra urban-- lpg 31.00mpg current price round here £0.75

Not close to the normal accepted 10% less mpg on lpg more like 28%

so over a 1000mile trip on petrol it would cost £135.98p ,, lpg £110.08p
a wild saving of £25.90p to lpg.

I've just had a quote to fit 2 lpg filters and adjust the vaporiser = £220.00p :roll:

payback on this with the £25.90 saving on lpg would be 7723 miles of gas before I start saving again...two years to me...hoping nothing major goes wrong..

So is gas really the way to go with the gas service costs so much and on TOP of the normal vehicle servicing costs..

Now I don't know where vauxhall got there figures but my Zaffy don't do close..

Also anyone know ( i've been told) :evil: a carsonagenic gas is put in the vaporiser and not to try and refurbish it ,
VERTON gas ,, not found it on google or anywhere .. ? legpull ?

:oops: Sorry to go on so much and probably duped a lot of things delt with in the past....

Anyone know any koltec-necam filter suppliers for a 2004 factory fit zafira 1.8 ??

cheers
phil

The petrol figure seems extremely good for a 1.8 litre car but we all know that the quoted, laboratory generated figures usually bear very little resemblance to what you actually get. Have you checked consumption on both fuels to see what it actually does?

Sounds about double what I would expect.

Scaremongering. The only things in a vaporiser are LPG from your tank, coolant and a bit of air from the atmosphere to sit behind the diaphragm.

Hi gilbertd,
thanks for reply,
Figures for my car are motorway =petrol 37mpg .When it last worked a year ago lpg varied between 23 to 31 mpg ,at its demise it was 14mpg..
Even then the gas did not live up to the usual 10% gas petrol difference more like 20-30% which wasn't a great saving over petrol.Roughly same ratio as vauxhall figures.

Just got the gas flowing again to find whats wrong , So thought I would start with filters..

I thought the price a bit rich or he was...thats why I'm looking for someone who can supply filters.

One thing I have found is thats its very difficult to work out the true MPG you are getting on gas..... why?

because it depends on the pump which is putting the gas into your tank...

Bentley started to run out of gas today so I went and filled it up..... All it would take was 50 litres.. That works out at nearly 14mpg...yehh!!!

I think the tank is a 90 or 100 litre. Not sure, so I think there was space in there for another 25 - 30 litres..

Don't mean to hijack this thread but as a newbie don't think I can put up a new enquiry.
Re your comment above I was thinking of changing my vaporiser with same make/part and wondered if this is a job I can do myself or need an expert? Water pipes no problem (no air lock critical) but not clear what needs be done before gas pipe can be loosened off? Are there any general guidelines on doing this task? Its an Emmegas for a single point system.
Thanks

Its seems to depend a lot on temperature as to how much gas goes into the tank.Some days you win and some you lose..Worst fill I ever had was at a Morrisons so i don't fill at that one anymore.

I mainly used one supplier (FLOWGAS) cos I opened an account and get upto 10p of the price of other retailers!.

Although I havn't had any for a year now cos the Zafira has a problem running on gas...

cheers

That's the shutoff valve in your tank stopping the gas, not the pump.

I'm 99.9% sure my shutoff valve in the tank (zafira 1.8 lpg factory fit necam) is stuck shut and will not allow any lpg in it..

last try couple of hours ago 0.23ltr only..

thats all i've managed to get in it on several attempts over the past year..

It was about empty last year when it stopped filling..

ran it another 100miles or so , now just runs for minutes before back to petrol...
Who can fix this or where do I start..

cheers

You could try tapping the tank with a soft mallet, failing that you could try to remove the multivalve of you believe its empty enough.

Still not managed to get more than 50 litres in my tank at the regular garage and not inclined to want to test it at another garage where its 20p per litre more.....
Its a 120 litre tank........thats a lot of price difference...

If the other garage has three tanks as opposed to two you may find you can get more in.

Why not fill up at your usual place then travel to the other or a. another and see if you can get more in than the fuel you've used on the journey there.

Thanks, I have received these OK.

Alot of the images I have got but I don't see anything in the text that I've seen before.

I have translated a couple of parts which is of interest concerning the filter in the solenoid valve at the vaporiser.

According to the standards the Netherlands filter element must be changed every
90000km (Apx. 56000miles) mileage or every 6 years. For Russia, this standard is 30000km (Apx. 19000miles)
This must be because it is so much colder. I never considered it an issue for the filters.

and

9.0 System Maintenance EGI
The first maintenance of the gas system EGI holds in the interval
14500-15500km mileage, or one year of operation.
Routine works include:
1. inspection of the pressure reducer-evaporator;
2. inspection of the filter in the gas valve;
3. clean the filter in the dispenser-distributor;
4. check all connections for leaks.

The second then the system is performed in the range 29500-30500km mileage car or two years
operation. It includes:
1. inspection of the pressure reducer-evaporator;
2. replace the filter in the gas valve and clean the magnet;
3. clean the filter in the dispenser-distributor;
4. check all connections for leaks.

Subsequent maintenance of the system are performed at intervals of EGI 30000km mileage and repeat of the second TA.

Unfortunately, one has comments like this so it doesn't go into any depth.

On cars from 1997 model year set the computer with the new version
software. These cars can be diagnosed by using computer
through a special interface. Program for testing called MONIO. She
can read error codes, check out the most important signals of the system in real
Time and write the parameters of the engine dynamics. In case of need
diagnostic file can be sent to the Netherlands via email.

I shall be picking away at these and seeing if there are any other little gems in there.

Thanks Phil

and for the offer of translation help Gilbertd

Monio sounds interesting,,
Just reading bits by 'KVER' on as*an*wner fo*um.
He basically intimates the monio software is interfaced to pc from the 4 wire connector in the fuse box/or/ switch area that has the grey diag wire in it..
and vauxhall official LPG repairers should have one !!.

All we need is the loan of one and a copy (ha!ha!)..

As soon as I have my scope built I will have a look at the signals from these wires and if its possible to knock something up .. I've had dafter thoughts over the years..

Once i pulled a teletext board from an old tv and interfaced it to a spectrum computer ,wrote software and a 40column screen driver so I could look at the teletext,worked a treat,thought I'd become a second Sinclair/sugar but a week later someone had one on the market..dreams shattered.
