Which leads me to believe has gas really gone up or have BP kept there prices more or less the same and shell just ripped people off... i remember when i had a 328ci on gas 2 yrs ago... £25 would get me 200 miles now that was value.... so yuri that 728 seems bloody thursty... my m5 will do 250miles on £50-55

2 years ago... 2 years ago a 328 was a good car, lpg was cheap, vat was 17,5% it was was was..
its past lets adapt to todays prices and be happy

M5 ??? what year your M5? 728 from a £50 gas got me a 400 motorway miles and 50 miles in london. but in everyday short trip driving £25=100miles is very good. well, to my understanding.

Hit 85ppl here in Essex. That's a 41ppl saving although in real terms it's maybe a 20% saving overall per tank.

Funny thing is 20 miles up the road I can buy it 15ppl cheaper but I almost never go that way

OK, OK, I was wondering how long it would be before you popped up to rub it in! I was paying the equivalent of 22p a litre the last time I went to Belarus. This was just under half what I was paying over here at the time. Petrol prices were comparable too. I left Minsk with both LPG and petrol tanks filled to the brim and topped up with LPG at Brest before crossing into Poland and the EU zone.

Interestingly, prices within the EU were all much of a muchness. Depending on the Pound/Euro exchange rate at the time, France, Holland and Germany were roughly the same and only a couple of pence cheaper than in the UK. Belgium was about 10p a litre cheaper (and still was a couple of months ago) and Poland was about midway between the two.

I may be driving to Minsk again later in the year (visiting the in-laws, which is an interesting experience as they speak no English and I only speak about 6 words of Russian!) and may well look at fitting a second tank to increase my range on gas. If I can carry sufficient to get me from Belgium to Poland and then fill there with enough to get me to Minsk, I could save a fortune!

Yes, but once you've filled up there, you need to know how much it will cost you when you reach the end of your tank. If you only ever drive round in circles, then you can always fill up at the same place, but what's the point in that? Cars are meant for driving, so my attitude is to drive them. Anything less than 1,000 miles is local mileage as far as I'm concerned.

Although when I told someone at work I was getting off the ferry at Calais and driving East for 1,300 miles non-stop, they told me I was mad. Can't understand why?

I think there is a big future in gas in the eastern Euro, Russ Federation seems to have good supply.More and more filling stations are poping up in the last year.

When i first started driving in russia 6 months ago LPG was 13.20 rubles.

Around here, in the East Midlands, there is now a 19p a litre difference in LPG prices within a 15 mile radius. Anyone noticed a similar price difference in a litre of unleaded? Probably not, since any garage selling petrol at around 145p a litre wouldn't get many takers. Because the LPG market is so small, the likes of Shell and BP can charge what they want. Long live Asda!

It's not the distance but the "non-stop" bit that makes you mad. You're gambling with your own life and the lives of others if you do distances like that without proper sleep, rest and relaxation. We often drive to the Czech Republic and/or Poland and have done each year for the last 20 years (our house in Preston, Lancashire to Prague is 1,020 miles) but no way on earth would I consider doing it 'non-stop'. As much as I love driving (and I really do), I value my life and the lives of others too much to risk like that.

When I say non-stop, I mean without booking hotels en-route. If I was to book myself an overnight stop, I can be certain that I'd either get there while I'm still fit for another couple of hundred miles and not want to stop, or I'd be totally knackered before I got there and end up sleeping in the car instead. I drive over 200 miles a day 2 weeks in 3 for work so that sort of distance doesn't bother me. I'll drive until the car needs fuel so I have to stop. I'll have a coffee, something to eat and a wander around to convince my legs that they are designed to take my weight and not just for pushing pedals. If I start to feel tired then I'll stop and go to sleep. These days they tend to call it a 'power nap' but I'm one of those people who's metabilism means that 2 or 3 hours sleep will keep me going for at least 6 hours before I feel tired again. I enjoy life, and driving, too much to put it at risk.

Usually it drops to pre winter levels but this year there has been the duty and VAT increases as well. Don't forget though that these also affected petrol prices too. An increase of 2.5% of £1.25 is greater than a 2.5% increase of 70p.

I notice Shell Fenstanton is still at 81.9p but the BP on the A1 just north of Peterborough Services was at 71.9p this morning. That's a hell of a difference for two stations on major roads.

The strange thing is (and this is how i know shell is ripping people off) Shells price has not changed this year despit vat goin up... it was that on the 27th dec...

Everyone knew VAT was going up so they probably increased their prices early to make a bit of extra profit while they could.

It does seem to be a Shell thing though. A few weeks ago, a Shell station near me (Lincoln Road, Werrington) was the cheapest of anywhere in the area. They were charging 61.9 when Flogas had just gone up from 59 to 62p and most of the others were around the 65-66p mark. Having just filled up at Flogas, I was slightly miffed but when I drove past the following day, they were up to 69.9p! An 8p increase overnight! I've not been past recently but I hate to imagine what they are up to now.

Hi first post and having a bit of moan, sorry!

I've been watching this thread with interest and quite a few seem to be taking these wildly inflated prices on the chin. Also many people seem to be comparing the price of LPG to petrol to justify a small saving. I run 3 LPG vehicles, 2 V8's and a transit. What appealed to me was running a smooth powerful petrol engined car with the same running costs as a diesel and when I got my my first one LPG was approx 35ppl and from memory Diesel and Petrol were nearer a £1.00, so it was actually cheaper running LPG than diesel.

My Transit runs an average 16mpg, at approx 80ppl for LPG thats roughly the equivalent of 22 mpg with diesel at £1.28. I have many friends who run diesel transits at well over 30mpg all day. 22mpg just doesn't make ecconomical sense. If it wasn't for the fact I enter central London for nothing and save £8 a day I would be in a diesel transit already.(And that comes to an end in Dec 2012 )

I shall see how prices deflate in the spring and the annual inflation next winter and if its anything like this one I'll be looking at changing all 3 for the diesels!!

I feel sorry for all you installers out there. Times are hard enough as it is, but I can't see many people queing up for a conversion at 80+ppl.

Sorry for the rant but for someone who has spent many a Friday night down the pub telling all and sundry the virtues of LPG I feel incredibly let down at the moment.

I take your point and sympathise. I am one that is taking it on the chin. As I pointed out, if petrol stays at £1.25, LPG would need to get to £1.10 before there would be nothing in it for me. A diesel would be cheaper obviously but as I'm talking Range Rover, my 4.0 litre V8 compared with a 2.5 litre diesel is no contest. The guy I bought the LSE from replaced it with a much newer 2.5DSE. He has done nothing but complain about it since he got it as he has gone from plenty of performance and running costs equivalent to 30 mpg (as it was when gas was half the price of petrol) to no performance and 25 mpg.

However, you quote 80 ppl and it only seems to be Shell that have gone up that high, my local BP which is on the A1, is at 71.9p. When buying 60 odd litres at a time, a 10p a litre difference is £6 extra. Quite a difference.
