Hi, newbie question

#1 Post by Dude »

Hi guys, just found your forum, I am a mechanic and our workshop specialises in jap performance cars, we have very good facilities.
My question is regarding the possibility of removing an Impco LPG kit off a 1984 blazer 5.8 and fitting it on my Fleetwood camper 7.4 1988.
The blazer runs perfect on its LPG, the part numbers I found are
IMPCO 300A
Series 50 & 70
Mixer part number CA300AM-50

It has a large cylinder tank in the boot, this can be strapped under the back of the camper, can I add another cylinder and link them ?????

Thanks for your help. :)

you would have to work out if the vap can supply enough fuel for the engine, usually rated in bhp on most sites/vendors sites.

with it bieng a camper but with a large engine (7.4 litre??) i suspect the bhp will be irrelevant as most ratings are for cars!

there will be a calculation but i have no idea what it is. you could always fit another vap side by side style and i would imagine you'd have to uprate the pipework to suit.

if the system is a single point then i would reckon you'd be better with a multipoint and sell the old system on to recoup some layout.

the taks are irrelevant as technically you can have as many as you want or whatever size you want, the pressures are the same its gas flow that will be your main worry!

Thanks, I forgot to say that the carburretors in both vehicles are the same.
So its the vaporiser that I need to worry about and not the mixer plate thingy that sits on top of the car!! Does anyone know an Impco dealer in the south of england??

If you've got an impco mixer the chances are it will have a suitably matched vaporiser. Most likely an impco model E.

Swapping the system over will be straightforward and will likely require a little tweak on the mixture but I'll bet good money it'll just work fine from the get go.

HKL are the main impco dealer in the UK but there are a few others.

Thanks jayc, whereabouts are HKL???
I may as well buy the blazer then, it should make the money I have to pay for it with the LPG removed so as long a sits not too much of a mission then I will give it a go.

Virtually impossible to fit a multipoint on an engine that has a carb as all these big Yanks do. With a few very rare exceptions, a multipoint takes it's trigger from the petrol injector pulses so if there aren't any petrol injectors, there's nothing to drive it. An Impco system is virtually a gas carb so perfectly suited to this application.
