My X-trail conversion by Birmingham Autogas - with piccies

Good morning all

Following on from my other "spoilt for choice" thread. I am looking to get my 2006 2.5 litre auto X-trail converted to lpg and am really looking for both positive or negative input from anyone that's had this done, or who has carried out the conversion. What kit has been fitted, by whom, how much, what mpg do you get and is it any good or not are the main things

Oh yes, and flash-lube, how have you got on with or without that.

All you really need to know is if people are running lpg with success on that particular vehicle which it seems they are. If you do high mileage have Prins or brc fitted if not get a aeb based kit (bigas,zavoli.omvl,romano) or another well known one (ag, stag,) fitted by a recommended installer on here.
You cannot really go wrong if it's well fitted, go on take the plunge.
You can pay anything from £1000 to £2000 for a fitted 4 cylinder kit. Some of the cheap installs have had as much good feedback as the £1500 one's. You will save 40% fuel costs in the real world and I would fit flash lube.
The car will not be worth a penny more or a penny less when you come to sell it and some dealers will not like to part-ex a lpg car. They do seem to shift privately but I think it takes longer as the Brittish are so anal about their cars, look how long it's taken people to start using diesels when I have given up on them and changed to lpg..
You will save about £15-20 a year in road tax but may pay over £400 next year anyway, probably pay a little more insurance depending on the company and the conversion will not be covered so shop around and most likely will not qualify for the congestion charge exemption. Use the search fascility on here for clarification.

I just need to decide which one of two installers to use. I hope to be able to talk to them on the phone next week, they've been closed for Xmas/New Year, which has slowed things down a bit.

Have decided to go with Birmingham Autogas, been down and seen them and had a measure up and chat. They are only 30 miles away so pretty easy for me to get to if I have any problems, plus I do a fair ammount of work in Brum, so should be able to get there on works mileage....not that I'm tight, or owt!

They will fit me an OMVL system, flash-lube, approx 70 litre tank with free tank of fuel, 2 years parts & labor warranty, LPGA certificate, users manual, free first 1000 mile check up. All in for £1050.

It's being done on Monday. It's a very good price, and they seem to have good things said about them and I'm really looking forward to getting it done. Hopefully the petrol in the tank at the moment ( approx 3/4 full ) will last me for a lot longer than I expected as there should still be over 1/2 a tank by then, and using it during start ups etc it should last a while.

Hi There

It's an OMVL dream XXI N, SGI. Had the system fitted yesterday, in a day, so far it has worked like a dream. I have noticed no difference running on gas to petrol, the car feels exactly the same.

Switch over between petrol and gas after starting up has been seamless. The only way to tell it has happened is by looking at the dashboard guage, and there's a brief sort of clonk noise from the boot area which I assume is the tank valve opening to pressurise the gas line?

The installation has been done very neatly, I am impressed at the workmanship. I will take some piccies and post them on here over the weekend.

you will find it will just run out.
So reset your mile-meter when you refill to the brim and work on that.
I think that you will find that you will get more miles out of it on the red light than you do with the green one's showing.

1000 mile check up done today, all good, Flash-lube had to be adjusted, that was it. They do the usual annual/12,000 mile service for £30, so guess where I'll be going when the time comes.....back to Birmingham Autogas

Can I ask how all is going? I'm am thinking of this intaller for my 2.4l Chrysler Voyager as they seem the best value LPGA approved I can find.
Any info would help no end.

All is going well so far, am having the car serviced ( normal not LPG ) this weekend. Since conversion 4 months ago I have done 7000 miles. I have done trips to the seaside, up and down the motorways with work and lots of short trips too and it's not missed a beat even in the coldest of cold days in January.

I travel from Leicester to Birmingham quite a lot and always try to fill up at either their Nechells or Tyseley branches as it is sooooooo much cheaper than home. Yesterday I filled up at Tyseley where it's only 53p/litre, at home it's 62p.

I can see no reason not to recommend them fully at the moment

Appreciate this is an old thread & not sure if you still have the Xtrail but Im lloking to get my 2.5ltr Xtrail converted and wandered if you had any feedback on your experience?
Did you have any issues? Keep hearing about the Valve problems...
