Using Iridium plugs with my V6 Mondeo

Hi all,

I need urgent advice if anyone can help, I'm looking at fitting Denso Iridium plugs to my Mondeo V6 but can't decide between the two types, Iridium Power and Iridium Tough.

Is anyone familiar with these and able to give me a clue as to longevity and performance of each type?

I use Denso Iridium Power, the difference is that the "power plug" has a smaller tip, so theoretically produces a better spark.

I Used the Denso Iridium Power in my Clio and had them in for about 40k with no problems, they are currently in my megane and have done about 12k on gas.

Not used the tough plug, but longevity seems good with the power plug

That's very reassuring thanks, I've ordered the Power plugs today as I got 6 for just over £40 delivered from Opie. Fingers crossed they'll do the trick then!

What was the code on them? I use the Denso IK24 on my cars. Get over 50k a set from them each time too. Need regapping at about 30k though

Code was IT16 mate, they arrived today too so can breathe easy now that I have them in time for the service on Friday!

Hi all

Will be servicing my discovery soon , is their a major advantage of using iridium plugs rather than standard ones then? apart from the long life of them?

Well now that they're fitted I can say that the car is nice and responsive, it's running lovely in fact. However, it always does when it's just had new plugs fitted, the proof will be in their longevity.

It seems that some people have noticed significant improvements by fitting the Iridium ones. I would say to give it a bash, they're not ridiculously expensive, and if it means the service interval can be increased then so much the better!

Ford or Motorcraft plugs for the V6 are double platinum finewires so you are pretty much replacing like for like, Ford plugs are good for 60k too

Who is this "Opie"? How do I contact him/her? Can he/she supply me with 8 of Denso Iridium IW16's at a decent price?

Even with the 5% introductory discount a set of 8 IW16's come out at £67 or so. I can get the NGK equivalents (BPR5EIX) cheaper off eBay!
So far my best quote is under £50.

*Update*
I have just bought 8 of the NGK Iridium plugs from "autoorders" on eBay for £47.17 inc. postage. He may have other flavours in these plugs.
