A lot of garages conning LPG users

Amazing how many forecourts seem to have their LPG at half the price of unleaded and increase the price at the same time so as to keep it that way BP in Pickering just wacked their gas up by 2p a litre to 47.9. to match their unleaded. Rumour doing the rounds that some Morrisons sites might be about to drop gas price following jump to 42.9 a few months back. Seems that they are not shifting the stuff at anything like the rate they used to.

Read/heard somewhere that BP's policy is to keep LPG at half the price of petrol.

Well as long as they keep doing that ....even when the chancellor is putting up the duty each year ...looks like we are OK into the future. all the best.mark

Chancellor has vowed to rise the duty on LPG by more than he does on petrol in order to cut the differential . He has said he will do this for the next 3 years. Hence it will be 3p a litre increase plus vat later this year on lpg and only 1.5p on pet / derv.

Thats what concerns me...it is more than half the price of petrol at some stations now...50.9p at Total on the A64 whilst petrol is at 94.9p per litre. Leaving the tax bit a side, India and china are guzzling millions of gallons of lpg and pushing the market price up almost monthly. Only due to the relativly slow turn over of the stuff at our pumps that we don't see a price rise every month.

well my methodology ...says reap the benefits whilst you can .. Mines a DIY install.... this recent one.......will pay for itself in 10,000 miles ...it's now done 3000 miles ... this time next year .........will have done 14000 and i will be saving money. if i can maybe get another year out of it from then ...then I'm quite happy to dump LPG when the price goes up and never return to it . I know it's not the case for you and i feel sorry for everyone else that has jumped on the LPG bandwagon. I jumped on it quite early on ... over eight years ago..even then the doom mongers were saying ...hah hah hah... you'll see!, when they put the price up ... Well they didn't all that much .........and I've saved over £6000 in fuel over them eight years . On this recent install I weighed things up ....and decided it would pay for itself ..........and the other benefits were taken into account ........like an engine bottom, end that would take 1/4 a million miles to wear out. The ability to go on short trips without causing wear to your engine from fuel wash down of the cylinders. No sludge ......clean oil ... lovely clean dipstick ..big smile ...enviromental benefits . Also less chemical reaction that rots exhausts from the inside out....my last exhaust lasted 6 years Interesting project that makes lots of friends on these forums . The thing is more of a hobby for me ...that gives rewards. All the best...mark

Lucky blighter. I started when it was averaging around 28 p per litre , about 18 months ago . It has been one increase after another, so much so that the bloke who persuaded me to join him in the world of LPG swears I must be jinxed.Now I pay an average of 43p per litre.

eight years ago it was barely below 30 pence per litre around here ...think it was 29 pence when i first started ....and within 6 months went up to 32 pence. so on the face of it ...you were getting exceedingly cheap LPG 18 months ago ... as eighteen months ago here ...it was 36 pence so looking at from your direction Dave ...there was quite a hike FOR YOU ....

We also lost at least 3 lpg retailers with in a 20 mile radius of my home thanks to Tesco. They took over 3 seperate petrol stations and converted them to thos mini stores of theirs.. At each one they removed the LPG pump. I wrote to Tesco who basically said ' tough- the future is bio fuels and we have shares in a bio fuel refinery ' Of course, 3 lpg stations gone doesn't do a lot for healthy competition with the remaining ones.

I see that the JET station at Tadcaster is charging .54p per litre !!!! for LPG. Is this a record ?

Even though LPG has gone up in price in recent years, I'm saving more per mile now than when I first converted seven years ago. There's life in LPG yet!

gas has gone up by 16p a litre since i started,petrols gone up 23p in the same time.Whats the problem ? you have to look at the bigger picture,no realist expected it to stay at 28ppl for ever.My only concern now is the modern diesel engines rattling up 40-50 mpg.That'll be the route i go down next,not due to lpg prices but the massive improvement in diesel technology.Economy would be the same if not better and i wouldn't have the inconvenience of having to plan all routes with military precision.

57p per litre!!! that has to be the worst. One of my local stations charges 53.9 which i thought was the worst in the UK. Clearly not! DOnt they realsie people who run LPG are more price conscious than normal motorists?
