i dont know where the price of 238 for an injector rail came from its certainly not an omvl one i can buy a 4 cyl rail for a lot less than you would pay for 2 romano ones plus if one injector is worn through high milage its better to replace the lot its aslo a lot quicker to make brackets to fit one unit rather than four or are they just left hanging on the pipes

£238 is probably what FES charge, if they sell to the public ...or non regular customer installer .

and probably what they would charge me too !

All the best.mark

Hi Steve,we share common objectives ,and like you i am sure if the supplier couldnt deliver we would,nt use them.

Have you tried the 8mm flexi pipe? i use it on a lot of applications including filler,it makes life a whole lot easier.

cheers Keith.

That price above is what they quoted me.

I have since found out ;) that exchange units are much cheaper and one route i will most likely go down depending on what happens next weekend

Thanks for all the info guys and to Steve as well on our Phone call

Ill definately update soon and say whats happened as at the moment the car is undrivable on LPG and only being able to use 97+ RON fuel makes driving non to cheap at the minute

Thats got me thinking..
the knock sensor on the rover t-series 2ltr engine..
how does it work ..
does it advance the ignition from knocking all the time ..

if it does ......does that mean that when i put LPG in it ...that is sometimes over 105 octane so Ive heard, that it will adjust itself to suit ...
or does mean that i can fill on say shell optimax ...and get it to run on that ...for what little running it will do on petrol ...and have it match up closely with the LPG ...to stop there being a big difference and the ecu ...sometimes leaning petrol conditions conditions ...and sometimes learning LPG conditions for running...if you know what i mean ..
would there be any benefit .....read..may as well fill it up with that stuff anyhows ...any benefit to be had ...
or even octane boost in the petrol ..any thoughts.

all the best.mark

Keith,

I tried the green type of 8mm flex pipe that comes with ICOM tanks.

When exiting a spare wheel well through the vent hole it is crucial to obtain quite a sharp 90 degree bend to follow the well floor and go wherever. The bottom of the vent is quite prone to damage from grounding and we would not want the pipe to be worn through by Mr Bloggs as he drives over yet another kerbstone or similar.
So, a sharpish bend is required.

The green flexible pipe is not suitable for this, it simply collapses and folds flat at the apex of the bend. Unless another solution is found I don't see it as a useful alternative.

Although it may be that you are speaking about another kind of flexible pipe?

Regards

Steve

www.go-lpg.co.uk

Steve Adams -

Go back over my posts and find that I didn't mention any particular make, save Romano.

In any event, could you clarify what you meant by 'i can buy a 4 cyl rail for a lot less than you would pay for 2 romano ones'?

You wrote about 'exchange injector rails' on January 4th. Later, same date, you mention 'overhaul kit'.

I put the price of a brand new Romano injector at £36, two would of course cost £72.

Unless you are saying the cost a completely new rail of 3 or 4 injectors is less than £72 (which I doubt), the comparison is worthless and your claim is invalid.

A new item is one thing. A rail exchanged/reconditioned or repaired with a kit is quite another.

Regards

Steve

www.go-lpg.co.uk

HI Steve i am talking about an exchange 4 cylinder rail (from OMVL) with a 1 year warranty for less than the price of 2 ramano injectors. Overhaul kits are NLA

Hi steve, the flexi pipe i use is supplied by both CLS dual fuel and Greenfuel.
It is a better quality pipe than the icom stuff and the ends are easier to fit!!.

What i normally do is put a slot in the vent stub this way the bend never drops lower than the bottom edge of the stub.

Re injectors, i was quoted £55.00 +vat and delivery last week for a 3cylinder rail.

Used an o ring out of an old rail and fixed it for nowt.

Cheers Keith.

Steve A.

As I said, an exchange rail is one thing and brand new items are another. The comparision is uneven and not worth making. If Romano needed to produce exchange injectors (it is not neccessary as they can be cleaned by anyone whilst their calibration is unaffected) then they'd probably be around £10 each.

Keith,

We put a slot in the vent tube too, but still the bend results in the pipe kinking flat.
You have me interested though, I think I'll try this new kind of pipe. I assume it is R67/01 approved?

Steve i dont see your logic here it might be called exchange but it is reworked at the factory to orginal spec and comes with a warranty the same as a new one and when we fitted romano you could get exchange injectors

Going to add my two bobs worth here,
"reworked at the factory" does this mean it has to go to Italy to have 8 o rings fitted [4 cylinder rail] at a cost of £80 or so.
There is no calibration as this is done by the graduated outlet nipples.
I tried to get an exchange unit last week only to be told ,no 2 year warranty except after jan 2006.

How long is the warranty on a reworked unit??.

The EU mandate states 2 years on all parts supplied.

This is only offered by certain suppliers,of certain equipment.

I will stick with my indivdualy replaceable units
as yet to replace one that i have installed!!.

Steve A.

OK, logic explained.

You are keen to provide a comparison between injectors made and supplied by two different companies centerd on what happens if a problem occurs. For that to be a worthwhile comparision you should be comparing like for like (or as close as you can get).

The closest, most evenly matched comparision is made by cancelling out the cost of labour when removing and refitting as that has to be done with both kinds. That cancelling out leaves us with only the direct cost of dealing with an injector of each kind.

Further cancelling out can be done on both sides when looking at the cost of a new part. The cost of the part you are using as an example represents the cost of an exchange (Pre-used) injector that has had reworking. On the other hand, I am also using a pre-used injector. In that way, the cost of new units on either side can be cancelled out.

This leaves us with only the cost of the rework of the injector.

To be as fair as possible, and using figures supplied, you will be paying £64.62 plus post (one way or both ways) for an exchange (reworked) rail if only 1 injector in a 3 injector rail has problems, and even more if it is part of a 4 injector rail.

Cost minimmum = £64.62 + Post and you'll have a wait for the part(s) to arrive.

If a problem occurs within a Romano 'Fast' injector it is simply stripped and cleaned, then ressembled. It does not have to be exchanged.

Cost = ZERO, nothing. No postage charges, no wait for the parts to arrive.

Clearly on one hand we see a cost of Min. £64.62 plus post and waiting time, and on the other, ZERO.

The conclusion is this - You cannot fit a replacement rail for less than the cost of 2 Romano injectors as there is no cost in reworking the Romano items save labour, and you have to do that too.

Steve,

If we are talking about simply cleaning an injector then there is no difference in cost.
If looking at replacing the injectors then the romano works out cheaper IF only ONE needs replacing, after that the OMVL is better value.

Keith as to calibration I asume you have not used OMVL but maybe Bigas as bigas were calibrated at the nozzle not OMVL. (you can change the nozzle size on OMVL to change injector size but not calibration)

Mike , you assume wrong!!.
If YOU have ever taken a OMVL rail apart then you will have seen inside, a piston a spring and an O ring, the Metering or calibration is controled by the graduated brass screw in nipples , available in .25 mm increments from 1.75 to 3.0mm , 2.5mm being standard. The final control of gas flow is done by the injector duration, this is why there is a injector size scale on the display page in the software.

The injector debate falls heavily in favour of individual injectors,Steve has given enough reasons as to why, and they are backed up by other installers , all of who have fitted OMVL and dropped it in favour of far better products.

As far as cost goes ,Romano £36.00,BRC £49.95,Keihin[Prins £95.00 aprox.[all costs are trade, expect at least 25% extra retail]

The cost is immaterial if you never have to change one.

Keith,

the injector itself needs to be calibrated. I would suggest you call FES and they would explain to you have the rails are calibrated. I dont want to post on here slightly incorrect details so give them a call and find out first hand for yourself.

CS -

My comparison is closer than the one given by Steve A.

Given that there are no welded bits to break off and no 'O' rings rings to get chewed up inside Romano injectors I can't see why I'd need to buy any replacements. Also there is no calibration issue (I know that you are correct on that point).

Regards

Steve

www.go-lpg.co.uk
