Well ive found out why since early june my engine has been running like a
bag of poop
(

Been away for a long while with work and the car went off for an engine
rebuild in july and it was found during rebuild it had been running lean,
more so on the 4th cylinder. i came back late last month and after some
playing around the LPG regulator for the 4th cylinder is buggered.

I went along the rail while the engine ws idling disconnecting the power
from each one to diagnose it and then when i got the the 4th one, the
injector rail was almost silent and the note of the engine didnt change.
disconnecting any of the other injector makes the engine much worse and
doesnt reduce noise level of the injector rail.

Now the Regulators look like they are just held on with a circlip so i was
wondering if they can be replaced on their own. I phoned FES to ask about
this but they would only quote me for a full new rail which would be circa
£230+
(

Does anyone know if anywhere does the regulator on its own at all and if so
what price please as im not stumping up for a new rail when it failed within
12 months but wont be replaced as im claiming just outside of the 12 months
:o(

Ta,
Will

OMVL Dream21 Injector/Regulator
Hi Steve,

Do you also sell filters at all as well??

Ive been told by the installer that its probably the o rings on the injector that have gone and an overhaul could fix it as the filter is probably fully contaminated and that it should be changed every 10k miles. i didnt realise it needed changing so often

Hi it wont be the o rings they are only seals the inner sleeve has broken loose inside the post hence the tapping noise the units can not be overhauled anymore yes we can supply filters as well cheers Steve
OMVL Dream21 Injector/Regulator
Hi Steve ...
what do you mean by "cannot be overhauled anymore "

do you mean

Are you saying they use to be overhaulable ...
and now fes wont supply the parts

or was there was once an old design of them that could be overhauled

so please explain why ???

All the best...mark
OMVL Dream21 Injector/Regulator
Hi Will, contamination is highly unlikely to be the cause of your problem.
The cause of the noise is infact a tiny o ring that has broken up.I had exactly the same problem with a car yesterday,it has only covered 7000 miles since conversion {14 monthes ago].
Another noisy one turned up today 24000 miles since conversion.
You cant buy replacement o rings or overhaul kits, although i will try and source some.
These injectors are falling over left right and centre.
The price you pay for buying cheap in the first place i guess.

Hi up to about a year ago you could buy a overhaul kit but once fitted it was found that the injectors were out of spec emmisions were high cylinder inblance etc so OMVL stopped selling the kits meaning you had to buy new injector rails after about 4 months of every body complaining they started doing the exchange units
OMVL Dream21 Injector/Regulator
So if they are selling exchange units, they must be overhauling the return units!!,surely the parts must be available.

The only parts you need are the tiny o rings used as dampers,to stop them clacking.
The o rings breaking up also causes the injectors to stick or only partially open.

exchange units come from OMVL the spot weld on the top of the post lets go its the inner sleeve moving in the outer that makes the clacking noise
OMVL Dream21 Injector/Regulator
I have robbed an injector rail i had of the o rings ,for three separate rails on three separate engines. It cured all three cases.

So anyone that has a bit of mechanical ability ...can fix them ...if they can get hold of the seals

'spose LPG appliance (cooker boiler etc) service centres would have these LPG proof o-rings would they. ?

I'm buggered if I'm going to ...
Pay high cost for LPG fuel..
Pay for a guy to clean injectors out when they get contaminated...
and Pay in excess of £200 to have injectors overhauled ...
I pity the poor guy in the street that has no mechanical knowledge ...and is faced with all that ...if you look at it from that fellows point of view, LPG would not be viable ...

He certainly would not want another lpg conversion done after that lot.

Unless things are done now ..about the price and the other things ..
the LPG conversion industry is going to fall flat on its back shortly ...me thinks.
THINGS ARE NOT LOOKING ROSEY!

All the best..mark

Yep that why thay stoped selling the kits, just to p**s every one off. wrong, time you brought the kit and spent half an hour messing about ( thats if you could get the screws undone) to end up with an uncalibrated unit that would last for ?? Omvl have the the right thing offering a exchange unit warranted for a year at a price which is less than most main dealers charge for an hours work , dont know where the £ 200 plus came from

forgot to say the main reason for injectors failing is the owners are either to tight to have the filter changed or think they know better about the service intervals than the installer/ manufactuer

Case 1,
Covered 4000 miles , no need for a service.

Case2,
covered 24000 miles ,2 10000 mile services done by me.

Case 3
covered 16000 miles ,1 10000 mile service done by me.
Has got bugger all to do with servicing.

So how much are exchange units then??

the installer i am using for this has the O-rings as OMVL gave them some for some special work or something.

To be honest i have started to lose faith in LPG with the overwhelming stupidity in the government regarding its taxing and basic running of LPG schemes and no real tax breaks unless you bought your dualfuel vehicle built as it was made.

I think if i ever get rid of my car ill be firmly going for veggie oil on some form of diesel. yes i lose the 300+ Pony push in the back i can get now but then again im going to see 50+mpg compared to 30mpg i see now at about the same price!

Some place charge 30p/litre but others charge more than 50p/litre! its a joke and needs to be controlled more really.

Sorry Kieth cant agree with you we service a lot of high milage cars the only ones that seem to suffer with injector problems are ones where the filter has not been changed and anyway would you buy a new car and say to the dealer dont change the oil filter and still expect the warranty to be valid the filters are there for a reason
OMVL Dream21 Injector/Regulator
No Steve you would,nt.
The three cases i have listed above are not fictitiouse!! and they have been serviced, that is a pretty piss poor reliability record for omvl.

I was never told or given some kind of warnign sticker to let me know about the 10k service, where is the service book like what you get with your cars engine??

Just thinking would this not be a better idea to have a service book for the LPG kit as well??
