LPG Prices

Hello everybody, I know we only pay between 1/3 and 1/2 of petrol, but I have a question that may be somebody could answer. Why is it that when Petrol prices go up, so does our LPG Cost, but when petrol prices come back down, LPG hardly moves. i.e. Petrol changes from over £1 to 78p an average of 23% drop in some regions, LPG changes from 40.9p to 39.9p an average of 2% drop. I thought we were supposed to be priveledged because we are helping the environment.

I know what you mean... I did ask this a while back but got no answer!! Locally 3 LPG stations have just dropped from 48.9 to 46.9, months after fuel prices dropped by over 8p/l. However, the LPG stations who were selling at 39.9 (one shell and a Morrissons) have kept the LPG price the same but still dropped the petrol. Big companies price fixing again I suppose!!

Keep your eye on the pole price.A litle bird tells me that BP are having a bit of a rethink!!

They need to! Customers have been reporting to us that our local(ish) Countrywide stores (they sell on an account basis) have reduced their LPG prices twice in the last month. Long may that continue.

Keith, what's the 'pole price'? A local BP garage has dropped from 48.9 to 46.9 here too. Was a plesent suprise, but I'd much rather we paid realistic prices of ~36-40p! Rich

Hi Rich, the pole price is ,yes you've got it , the price per litre on the tall pole outside the forecourt. Or it could be the price per conversion done by the Polish guys as per the "Conversions thread"with unheard of equipment. As far as i am aware Prins are the largest supplier in Poland, i digress. Realisticaly we could if the current trend continues we could see 40ppl. Cheers keith

Local Jet here went up to about 39p when Petrol and Diesel went up but been put down to 34.9p now. This garage has been consistantly lower priced and was as 27p to 29p when the BP's etc were hovering around the 38p to 40p If they can make money at that price BP and the rest are ripping you off.

Light at the end of the tunnel, i have just read the e mail from the LPGA re gas prices. They are on the way down,[yes you heard it first here folks] And they will stay at the 50%ish differential. Check the boost lpg site , there might be some info there. Happy motoring

God i hope so. 46.9 is the average here. Cheapest is 44.9

I have been going to the same morrisons garage for my LPG, ever since my conversion. I think back when I had it done it was about 32.9, then it gradually crept up to 39.9 and stayed there for about the last 6 or 7 months Now, petrol had dropped drastically and Morrisons have kept LPG at 39.9, then to my horror when I went yesterday, they had lept to 42.9 ppl, 3 pence increase, thats 7.5%, if any petrol station were to put petrol up 7.5% overnight for no reason then they would have an empty forecourt and most probably make the local papers, but they seem to be able to do it with LPG

Didn't you hear that there was a budget last week? Our beloved chancellor added 2.25p to the price per litre of LPG, so when you add the VAT on to that it comes to 2.64p. So it looks like your Morrisons has rounded it up by a massive 0.36p. Morrisons are generally the good guys in the LPG market. You're lucky to have one nearby - I don't.

Morrison's also give you 1.5 ppl back on their loyalty points card if you can be bothered with it. Not much I know but more than BP will do. I cannot work out the Government mindset on this - The choice is between 3 main fuels and they appear to encourage the use of the dirtiest, most harmful of all - Diesel. I do not, of course, suggest they do it through taxation but they do have a great bearing on what the manufacturers put out. At present Diesel is King and LPG is the ignored peasant.

Are you serious? I thought they had promised not to increase the tax on LPG until minimum 2008? Yeah, I use the Morrisons loyalty card, is quite good, points build up pretty fast

Deadly serious. Good old Gordon added 1.25p (plus VAT) to petrol and diesel, and 2.25p (plus VAT) to LPG. No they didn't promise that. All that they promised was that the difference in taxation between LPG and petrol/diesel would not narrow by more than 1p per year for X years. So they could add £1 to the tax on petrol and diesel and £1.01 to the tax on LPG and still remain within their promise.

The usual Jet garage I use was 34.9 the week before last [on holiday last week so did not use the car much] and tonight when I filled up it is now 39.9 per litre.

The jet garage i use was still at 34.9p after the budget. Talking to the persons inside they were disgusted at the 46p average in fife. They even said that morrisons nearby were being greedy plain and simple charging 42p a litre. While the prices vary and stay near the 44p mark it will put people off converting as payback time is of course longer. I am saving a large amount by using the jet instead of shell or bp so i have to say Jet at Falkirk good work and thanks for keeping your prices realistic.

yes thats the one jct 4 off the motorway. Im glad they are still under the 40p mark. Even better then that i topped up with 65 litres before they put the price up. There price obviously attracts the custom though as the times i have been people have always been getting gas. Maybe a 5p a litre hike is a bit strong. Well just have to watch and see if they stay the lowest.
