Economics of LPG

For your average motorist I can see why the conversion is not as inviting as it would seem. <BR>My solution was to buy a factory converted Astra, cost very little more than a petrol one as most people still don't understand what LPG is all about. I run the car from south wales to the south midlands daily clocking about 1400 miles a a week including leisure. I won't do the maths for you but the saving is immense over petrol and good over most diesels!! <BR>I'm not sure I would convert aftermarket as it seems that there is a big outlay and you don't gain some of the benefits as you do with factory conversions

Astra cost me £3300 and is the CD model, 5 door hatch, FSH, 1 owner etc, what more could you want? They also do/did estate versions and Vectra models if you need something bigger. Also Corsas and other niche models but they ARE rare. Volvo also do/did LPG in most models. It really depends on how much you really want one.

Company mileage rates don't help either.! <BR> <BR>I get a Car Allowance, and have previously been able to claim back 14p per mile for Business mileage (as opposed to the 40p per mile that is normally possible for a private vehicle), but our Tax man has now told the Accounts dept that they are being too generous, and that we should only be getting 7p per mile for LPG vehicle. <BR> <BR>We can claim back some Tax on the difference, but I will still be running a loss for most of year. <BR>its so rediculous, that given the 25% reduction in economy for LPG, I am actually better off running on Petrol for my Business miles.. <BR> <BR>Has anyone else been coming under similar pressure from the Taxman.???

He a typical average driver. He uses £20 a week petrol ?? mr average spends 60 quid a week then the figures work ie saving of 30 quid a week = £ 1560 a year
