Using a lot of petrol

hi, i posted earlier about my grand cheroke having problems when idling. i also forgot to mention that it seems to be using a lot of petrol alongside the gas. im using £20 of gas per week and £10 of petrol. it seems to use petrol when im driving around town even when it is running on gas. i know this as the 'miles left in tank' function on the cars computer goes down and down. however, last week i did 200 miles on the motorway and the 'miles left in tank' stayed constant throughout the journey. any ideas?

Wire a switch to turn the petrol fuel pump off,then it can't use any petrol while on gas!,could be due to leaky petrol injectors

Most likely to be leaking petrol injectors. this would also cause lumpy running.

thanks for your replys. cs autogas, even when the gas switch is on gas (rather than petrol or in the middle where it changes itself) would it still use petrol if the injectors were leaking? is it a big job to change the injectors? are the petrol injectors seperate from the gas ones? sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Ian, as far as I'm aware even when running on LPG your petrol pump is still whurring away. With it running your injectors are still pressurised with fuel, so can leak. Injectors are normally pretty simple to replace, but it might be easier/cheaper to take to to a garage for cleaning. Depends on what type of conversion you have Ian. If it is closed or open loop single mixer - We have had two faulty emulator units in the last 12 months, both of which allowed 'dual fuelling', 1 or 2 cylinders running on petrol and gas whilst the other 4 were on gas only. Killing the petrol pump would be a simple check to see if duel fueling is the problem, but wouldn't distinguish between a faulty emulator and leaking injectors. Bit of a waste of money renewing the petrol injectors, since apart from cold starting and emergencies, you won't be using them again.
