I understand a bit about the possible price of gas but as there is little tax on LPG the bottom line pence for pence gas is actually dearer than petrol or is it just a profit making oportunity !!!!!!

I thought that the LPG we use in cars is that which is "burnt off" during the refining process. If that is the case I also wonder why the increases. I'm sure I'm missing something and it's not the oil companies trying to subsidise keeping their petrol prices low whilst oil prices increase.

damian , I researched this and there is a post here somewhere gas is not burned off , hasn't been for many years [illegal] , to start with north sea production was 90% burnt off , now only 2 % is ,for technical reasons and as for cracking oil , this only provides enough for some one third of lpg demand , the rest is made by processing natural gas from the rigs , and I think the natural gas price is up over 50% in 2005 the great tragedy is that the middle east governments DO burn off natural gas from production sites , though with the new price levels it is presumably becoming profitable to process this despite the distance from the major markets of w.europe and n.america ; but who knows what their political agenda is , certainly not me

I noticed a further threat yesterday in the Mail on Sunday pg7 of the Financial Mail headed 'Fuel threat for pleasure boat' involving a possible trebling of the price of red diesel in just 12 months. This quoted the EU 'Energy Products Directive set[s] minimum levels of excise duty on various fuels,....' I'm interpreting 'various fuels' in a wide sense that could include our own beloved LPG. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to look up the directive or the UK's involvement in it but, if we are included it will alter my sums dramatically. Anyone have any comments/observations/knowledge? Steve.

I think the tax levels on LPG in EEC countries are usually lower than ours so it might mean less tax!!

I'd dream of paying <40p/L around here.. (in Reading). The cheapest about, that I've found is 43.9p, bet a few juntions up the road it's 34.9p in Bristol <img src="http://www.my90.co.uk/lpgforum/clipart/angry.gif" border=0> Rich

My local morrisons that as 29.9 a year ago, then 33.9 last easter, for the last few months has been 34.9 .... is now .... 39.9 <IMG SRC="http://www.my90.co.uk/lpgforum/clipart/sad.gif" ALT=":-(" BORDER=0> I can still get it for 36.9 near work, or 38.9 on the way home, home town its 39.9 also.

Looks like my Jet at Maddiston which was 34.9 on Monday and it 37.9 Wednesday might be getting avoided and head to Morrisons in Falkirk to see what they are sitting at.

Ahh, I love inside information. Soemone who was giving me financial training on Friday knows someone who works high up in Morrisons. It appears their recent take-over of safeway hasn't gone smoothly and they are pishing money away with stock issues and system compatabilities. He said as they're loosing so much money then have had to start creaping up their prices to make the books balance.. when the two companies have integrated then it will be business as usual... Rich

Hi , How do you get your own tank ? whenever I have enquired they want a min fleet of 5 vehicles or a min usage .

Tank costs about £1300 to get installed in your back garden with pump I think. On costs, in 6 months morrisons has gone from 29.9p/L (losss making to get people to use the store) to 39.9p/L like most other places. 38.9p/L is the cheapest I can get it with my local places now being 42.9p/L On Friday, on the way back from norwich I piad 47.9p/L but it was the only one for miles on the A17/A47 route and I'd run out completly and was on fuel.

My local garage, the only one for 15 miles has gone up from 41.9 to 46.9 in the last three months. This is BP. The next nearest garage is BP and it's 41.9. At this rate I think I will be going back to petrol, sod the enviormental issues. Damian
