Petrol versus lpg prices

since returning from the uk a month back , petrol and diesel prices have decreased here in france by perhaps 8% but lpg prices have continued to rise , and local filling stations are now at approx 50p ; cheapest supermarket price is now 45p .....I won't mention motorway prices in case anyone has a weak heart ! is this also the position in the UK , 42p seemed a normal filling station price when I was in the southern uk

Our local BP is 43.9 with a BP garage 10 miles away at 41.9p. That is Hastings. This is all very worrying as I think if LPG prices continue to rize I am going to have to get rid of my V8 as the cost benefits will disappear. Time to do some calculations I think.

I think the gas price rises are seasonal and, according to my local man, should come down in March/April. This is because the wholesalers do not distinguish between road and heating use. Of course, this opinion takes no account of the apparent market shortages that are threatened. Meanwhile, my local Asda has now reduced unleaded to 84.9p /litre from a peak of about 95p. As you say, Damian, some changes may be imminent. All I will do is flick the switch and run on unleaded for a while. Now, that brings me to another point: What should the plug gaps be if ..............!!?? lol.

i was in Hastings today and ran out of gas before reaching the Q8/BP station. Where is it please? Since Feb, when i got this car, i have never paid less than 42.9 so i'd be interested in knowing where the cheap one was.

The Hastings BP station is on the Ridge, B2093. It is 43.9p a litre. There is another BP one on the A21 just past Hurst Green going towards London. There are BP garages on both sides of the road. It is on the Coast bound side. This is still 41.9p. I do not know of a Q8 garage selling LPG anywhere near Hastings. I will have a look however as the two BP garages are ALWAYS breaking down and running out of fuel. Damian

Annoyed that LPG has gone up and petrol has gone down. It wasnt that long ago petrol was mid-90's and LPG 30-38, now even morrisons is 34.9, my usual place is 36.9 and my local 40.9!!!! Yet fuel is 10p cheaper down to 83.9 !!!! where its cheap and 86.9 average. I do a daily run from Blackburn to Leeds and back. Price makes quite a differance when you average 21mpg, at least I'm not paying fuel prices, but its still almost £10/day <IMG SRC="http://www.my90.co.uk/lpgforum/clipart/sad.gif" ALT=":-(" BORDER=0>

I have questioned MORRISONS on this issue. The Enfield Morrisons is at 39.9 and the Bristol one at 29.9 Morrisons Enfield say that the Petrol has come down because of competition with Tescos nearby. Tesco do not supply LPG so no competition. So there is one answer. I feel we need an MP to take this up as WE are the ones who have paid for a cleaner environment with less pollution and yet we are penalised by the profitmongers.

thats a good idea, but who would you lobby? just your local MP? organise a statement and get everyone to agree it?

Thanks for the feedback Richard. Getting an MP on our side to lobby Parliament is going to be the problem. Because the industry that we are up against is a not an unsubstantial revenue earner for the Government, we will have to find an unbiased individual - if one exists - to present our case and fight our corner. Now, how do we find such a willing and public service spirited person who represents their constituancy and backs them to the hilt - UM.............Well, there is the environmental ticket of course! hang about a sec ; in the same way as petrol prices reflect the current world oil prices ,don't lpg prices reflect world lpg prices ? anyone know where to look for a comparison on propane prices over the period referred to ? lpg prices here in france reflect what has happened in uk , by the sound of it ; so there is certainly an element of cost increase , and wouldn't it be a good idea to find out what that is?

LPG is in essence a waste product created by the oil pumping process. Unlike petrol and diesel there is no shortage and infact much of it is burnt off just to 'get rid'. For a company to HAVE put UP LPG prices it could only be down to two things: 1) LPG demand has gone down, hence profits from offering it (not true) b) Less oil is being pumped (not true). I fear it's all about recovering costs across the board since the UK Government slapped a load of new taxes on the North Sea oil companies, not to mention recoving a bit of money from the petrol price war. I think the environmental card has to be the best one to play. "As responsible motorists who care about the environment, whom have committed their own hard earned cash towards a government backed recommendation, saving the world, doing our bit" blah blah "shouldn't be penalized" blah blah. Opposed to "I'm a petrol head that loves big gas guzzling v8's and want a cheaper way of paying for my passion". I wish I was more pro-active but I'm not politically wise and would have no idea how to pursue such activity, also politicians with bigger words than I understand would quickly squash me. However, I'm more than willing to put my name against something I agree with, and will benefit me and others.
