It's all about what we are prepared to pay. The oil companies are making disproportionate profits on LPG. As an example one has only to go to the Oldham turnoff on the M60 where Morrisons and Shell are both selling it for 29.9p. The oil companies are able to absorb this duty increase without passing it on to the consumer. If we decided to block forecourts where the price was above, for example, 38p then questions would be asked as to why the LPG sales had dropped at that location and it wouldn't take too long before they would lower the price at the pump and see the business coming back. We just need to stick together and speak with our wallets...

I think a virus may be infecting computers used by some LPG forum members. First 'Northern Autogas' have their shift key lower case completely disabled, and now poor 'Anon' falls victim to the same disease...... Or maybe they are one and the same?

On a more serious note.... I hope that when the reductions in pollutant emissions from vehicles running on road LPG are presented to the Govt., an often ignored but significant factor is included - Much of UK's LPG comes as either a 'by product' of Oil production and the extraction of the Natural Gas we burn in our homes Etc. If one stands on the coast in Caister, Norfolk, the nearest platform can be seen. A tall stack placed on it burns off excess LPG, especially during the Summer. Too much 'by product' LPG is produced for viable (economic for the company) land based storage at this time of year as cylinder sales of Propane and Butane are low. In short, it is cheaper economically to just burn it off than store it and sell it later on. Clearly this is a huge waste of an irreplaceable fossil fuel, and worse, it is polluting the atmosphere whilst doing NO useful work of any kind. If this fuel were diverted and made to do some work, say powering a vehicle, it would result in the saving of 100% of the pollution now created at sea, AND then the reduction it will make in the vehicle. Thus, road fuel LPG reduces pollution TWICE. Mr Brown, please take note of this......

You are correct, of course. The lack of regulation on who does any type of work on a car is quite ridiculous, let alone on LPG conversion. Shift key still stuck?!!

It now appears that the very fine soot particles generated by diesel engines is returning to earth at the poles in snow flakes. The result is the snow is not as white as before and is absorbing more heat from the sun, hence melting snow caps and general global warming.

David, I'd agree that if the stuff is to be burned it may as well do something useful. At the end of the day ( maybe at the end of the world) all of the $ and £ signs mean nothing at all, not one jot. Money, economics, finance, all of them are mirages, shadows. You can't eat money, breath it, drink it or live in it. There is a finite amount of world fossil resources. Once we use them up they do not regenerate, its a one shot deal. Stupid in the extreme to burn off a fuel that could do something useful and even more stupid for this to happen whilst folk are taxed heavily to use other fuels. - Why do I say that? Because the more a man is taxed, the more money he must gather, and that normally means an increase in the amount of world resources he uses up in the process. A Carpenter who has to pay double taxes must chop down almost twice as many trees to make almost twice as many planks to sell for almost twice as many £'s. In this way, so called 'Green Taxes' are totally counter productive. I know I've gone all philosophical (not my strong point!) this last few days but writing this down might just be of interest to similar minded folk. If I just think it but don't write it then no one knows that I think like they do......
