Recently my cars started switching in and out of lpg, seemingly randomly, i can hear the solenoid clicking in and out in the boot.
I think its coincided with me changing my mapped switchover settings down to 25C, which i know is low, and a 2 second switchover delay, now changed to 3 but still doing it. (Changed from 40C and 4 second delay post mapping initially).
Could this be down to purely those changes?
Ive taken a picture of my current switchover settings which ill try and post up, (ESGI 2 system iirc).
(I changed my settings to try and reduce petrol usage as to cut a long story short my cars been misfiring on petrol tho up until now its still run smoothly on lpg)
Switching in/out of Lpg
Re: Switching in/out of Lpg
More likely a loose connection to the solenoid.

Re: Switching in/out of Lpg
Thanks Richard, at the solenoid end at the tank end most likely?
Re: Switching in/out of Lpg
I've seen the screenshot you txted me this evening, ESGI system with changeover settings set as you said in your opening post.
By switching between petrol/LPG randomly, do you mean when it switches back to petrol it acts as though it's run out of LPG (beeps as though you've run out of LPG) or something else?
The solenoids will switch off if it's acting as though you've run out of LPG but if you hear the solenoids clicking on/off when the switch shows it's running on LPG it's likely as Gilbert says and just a bad connection. ESGI only has one output for solenoids so the two solenoids (tank and reducer) are wired in parallel, either/both could have a bad earth or bad connection to the ECU. The relay that switches the solenoids in ESGI ECU's can wear/burn out, especially if you've got a short circuiting solenoid coil, worth checking resistance of solenoid coils while you're checking wiring connections including earths.
Check the LPG ECU for error codes, anything about open circuit reducer temp sensor or switching back to petrol due to low reducer temp reading?

Re: Switching in/out of Lpg
Hiya Simon thanks for the reply, nothing in those slightly modified settings of yours looks out of sync?
The symptoms are fairly frequently now, whilst running lpg seemingly randomly ill hear the solenoid ping in the boot to switch back to petrol, then usually shortly after it'll ping back onto gas.
So seemingly randomly and frequently now it 'll switch back to petrol then back to gas. (And when ive got a decentish amount of lpg in the tank)
?
(,it did seemed to start after i changed the settings slightly but mite be unrelated)

Re: Switching in/out of Lpg
You adjusted the changeover temp to 25C but that shouldn't cause it to switch back to petrol if the reducer temp falls below 25C unless it falls below 0C.
Did you change anything else? Check in panel petrol that impulse and rpm signal settings are correct. When driving check rpm reading works all the time and shows actual rpm. Also check temperature readings while driving, both reducer temp and gas vapour temp.
I expect you'll say you didn't change anything else, so best to go with the earlier advice but worth checking settings and readings.

Re: Switching in/out of Lpg
Thanks Simon yeah ill try and check tommorow and report back, ill check for any obvious solenoid connection s and take a look at my settings again, its not easy at mo tho cos my laptop batterys worn out like they do do + no i didnt touch any of the other settings on it bar those two.
Thanks
(Ps. Is Brian still around on here still nowadays at all still)

Re: Switching in/out of Lpg
Anyway so i took on board what you advised and I reversed the settings back to how they originally were just to rule that out,+ i didnt spot anything else amiss or changed there, so like you mentioned and i thought possibly too it couldnt have been just down to the switchover temperature change and was probably just coincedental.
The errors on the system were a few recent low voltage errors (i did actually spot that previously too but failed to mention that) so this sort of confirmed to me your diagnosis.
The solenoid connections seemed ok, not terribly loose but i sured them up anyway, but on further investigation i noticed another lpg system earth lead had broken, so ive for the now makeshiftedly tightened it up and am assuming that was the obvious issue.
Only thing is my cars still pinging in/out of gas slightly so ill have to properly secure it, but to cloud the issue im now v low on gas, so i know that could also be the culprit too now at mo.
Thanks a lot for your help and support ill update further if it rectifies it, only thing is im at a crossroads now with this car but ill hopefully speak to you again soon and hope the gas supply improves which it justifiably deserves to regards and all the best Ged
