I'd suspect the lack of the cable is why they are cheap. Though it shouldn't be too hard to make a cable with the right plug on the end of it (having remade the loom on the Disco 2 recently for the petrol injectors the hardest thing with that was finding the cable in the right colours and working out the correct way to use the crimpers on the pins).

The 170 doesn't have the yellow cables as far as I can tell from the wiring diagram either, not that it would matter for an injected vehicle. I'd guess its of limited use it itself as you'd need a Pitagora for the other 4 cylinders in the case of a V8 (I'd assume you could use the built in one for 4 cylinders and then an external one for the other 4 triggered off the blue wire for the solenoids again?)

On some/most of the AEB175 systems the yellow wires could be used for either of 1. resetting the ECU when shorted, or 2. Used to disconnect petrol injectors (though no built in emulation, on some vehicles you could get away with disconnecting the common positive and not using any emulation... or put the yellow wires to use for any other purpose where they'd break circuit when running on gas). Function 1 or function 2 selectable in software settings.

But most installers never used the yellow wires... Pitagora type emulators break the petrol injector connection when they get 12V on their blue wire, most installers used an emulator like a Pitagora and wired it to the blue wire from the AEB175 that powers the LPG solenoids.

If you were replacing an AEB175 based system that has an external emulator (as was the norm) then assuming the external emulator still works and the external emulator was switched from the LPG solenoid wire... then there'd be no need for the yellow wires and the 170's internal injector emulator wouldn't need to be employed, you'd just leave the external emulator wired in.

That would be true for dual emulators also?
If I've understood all the posts, the 170 has an internal emulator which is enabled when connected to the vehicle via a third port using a cable bought separately. If that is correct then an 170 can be grafted into my truck and the existing emulators employed (really don't want to have to hack into the injector loom given mine has the 'spider' injection where all 8 injectors are mounted in a block) without the additional emulator cable and the third port left unused.
And if I can find a connector as mentioned by Gilbertd then a jumper lead is possible. Please correct me if any of that is wrong!

Yes it would be true for any number of emulators. If the emulators are separate from the LPG ECU they can be left as they are and they will still work with a replacement LPG ECU as long as they are still connected to the LPG solenoids power feed.

You've said your setup has 2 emulators, what make/model emulators are they?

Thanks. Point noted re connection to solenoids power feed.

Pitogaros and they have the Pi symbol on them and an AEB mark.

One more question (I hope - man, didn't this all get a bit complicated from just looking for a forgotten link?) software? Presumably different software to that for the 175 I currently have on my lap-top - anyone given this thought, obtained the appropriate software, etc?

It will be different software. I haven't bothered to get or even look for the software until now. Mick at lpgautosupplies.co.uk sells the AEB170 Galileo's, I just looked on his website https://lpgautosupplies.co.uk/lpg-software/ and it points to a link on the projekt-tech.com site but the link to download the Galileo software doesn't seem to work from the projekt-tech site. Still I expect Mick will be able to point us in the right direction.

The other difference, and the reason why haven't had a proper play with the Galileo, is that my Leo cable has the 8 pin Molex connect (with only 4 ways used) but the Galileo uses the 4 pin Supaseal that the later AEB stuff uses and I've yet to make up a bodge lead.

I've got the software and instructions - try these links hopefully they will work, if not drop me a message and I will email them to you (software is only just over 5mb)

Thanks Brian_H. First link has both software and manual. Haven't tried loading the software yet (it will go on a different lap-top) but noticed it is RAR. From memory, RARs can be tricky - requiring a 'key' IIRC.

Is that the Supaseal (in the photo) that is required? If so, they seem to be easily obtainable.

I'd be inclined to make up an adapter so you can use your existing loom but plug it into a Galileo. Try trolling through the specs for these options https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/connecto ... 4294876964 (as I can't be bothered.....). It's a 20 way, 2 row connector but keyed so it can't be forced in upside down. I can post a picture of the connector on a 175 as I have a spare one sitting here (and no, I'm not ripping the connector off the pcb)
It's occurred to me that to use my existing lap-top to AEB175 lead, along with the Supaseal connector I'll need the 8 pin Molex connector also (or, the ECU end of the screwed together connector). Is the 8 pin Molex a variation on the 20 pin one?

The earlier AEB stuff all used an 8 way Molex connector with only 4 ways used for the programming connector. Later ones went over to a 4 way Supaseal. So to use my existing programming cable I'd need the 4 way Supaseal (plug or socket, depending on what is needed to plug into the Galileo) and an 8 way Molex socket to convert my existing cable.

The 175 uses a 20 way keyed connector and a 14 way Molex to connect to the loom, the Galileo has two sockets but one of them is used for the built in emulator while the other one carries all the connections.

Zip version
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AigNPuwBlwA-jKR-kIq ... Q?e=KLynFb

You should be able to handle Rar files with Winrar - https://www.rarlab.com/ has download version valid for 30 days (but can be used forever just has an annoying popup when launched)

Key would be to unlock it (the software) though I've never known of anyone to actually buy a license for winrar

The convertor your after is like the bottom lead in this listing

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363838161892

Its the female plug your after though, the photo above is the male one which is already on the ECU loom?

To avoid buying a Molex connector just wire the Superseal connector in parallel with the Molex connector? Plenty off the shelf interface cables have both Molex and Superseal connectors.

Good point and that picture does show that the wiring isn't straight pin 1 to pin 1, etc, but should give me a start as to how it needs to be wired.

Ding dong!
(And you thought Leslie Phillips had gone).

Thanks Gilbertd and Brian_H. I'll check that stuff out later.

If you take the Top left diagram and the one marked Landi Renzo (another AEB based system) that should give you the required pinouts on both connectors I think? This is from the no-longer available serial WTV interface for multi systems.

Photos of both sides below. Can anyone identify it by name so I can scour the 'net for the side that is attached to the ECU?

I agree, that one isn't Molex, I'd hazard a guess either TE Connectivity or AMP.

OK, that's in hand - the shift from 8 way Molex to 4 way Supaseal for the programming cable

The AEB 170 ECU connects every thing (with the exception of emulator facilitation) via its main plug. So, to build a jumper cable to connect the 170 ECU to my vehicle loom with existing connectors intact, I'll also need a 14 way Molex (changeover switch and level gauge) connector. Is that male or female?
