Faro Connector Fitting Angle

This is possibly a stupid question but anyway...

I bought a 8mm poly pipe to M12 elbow fitting to connect from my tank to the vaporiser. When I screw it in the angle ends up pointing upwards. How do I get it tight at the correct angle that suits the orientation the pipe is coming from? It's pretty loose and then suddenly goes fully tight once its pointing upwards so I don't think I can force it round.

Is it just a case of wrapping some PTFE tape round so its tight at the correct angle? I've also got some gas pipe thread sealant if that's any use, it seems like it would be a bit loose if I just used the thread sealant by itself.

I've only ever done that sort of connection with something like this

Using a normal olive and the screw in fitting for the copper pipe on the copper side of the adaptor that came with the vapouriser.

There may be a way of making it work with what you've got, not sure on that. But the adaptor I posted will let you turn it to whatever point you require before the final tighening step to lock it in place. Note that you need to know if you need a 6 or 8mm size, that one is for the larger 8mm size.

Thanks, that would make sense. I previously had 8mm copper pipe connected.

The vapouriser I'm trying to connect to is a Tomasetto Antartic AT13 XP. The specifications said M12x1 so I thought I just needed that threaded connector.

Now you have me thinking that perhaps I need to remove the brass compression bit on the vapouriser inlet and connect directly to the vapouriser. I assume the brass bit is meant for compression fittings.

Not sure on that, I've had difficulty with connectors like that threaded one and getting it to seal. The specs aren't always very helpful by themselves.

I'd hang on till someone else can confirm what best option is

I was going to write I wasn't sure what your problem is but on opening the link I can see you've bought a threaded 90degree connector - So I assume your problem is that with the connector screwed in tightly enough for it not to leak it is pointing in the wrong direction?

That is the problem with screw in type 90degree connectors... It is pot luck on whether it will point in the correct direction when it is tight enough not to leak. This is why I seldom use threaded 90degree Faro connectors ;-)

Without more details we can't know whether it would be pointing in the right direction if you tightened it a bit more or if that's true then whether you'd have to overtighten it (and risk breaking something) to have it pointing in the correct direction(?). Or if it would point in the correct direction if just a bit slacker(?). In the latter case you might be able to use some gas paste and/or PTFE tape on the threads - though I'd never want to leave one slack (able to easily rotate in it's threads) even if it didn't leak because future movement could see it start leaking. Or it might be a better idea to use a compression type 90degree faro fitting? I prefer screw in Faro fittings where possible over compression fittings (but straight screw in fittings as opposed to 90degree screw-in fittings lol)... It doesn't matter how tight straight screw-in fittings need to be they're always going to end up pointing straight away from whatever they're screwed into. But it also doesn't matter how tight 90degree fittings need to be if they're the compression type because you can tighten them to the same extent with them pointing in any direction. The compression fitting Faro connectors are brass (or steel for some older ones) so not as soft as copper pipe and to get them tight enough to prevent leaks does have the potential to cause higher loads on the compression fitting (and you don't want to over-tighten and break the compression fitting on the reducer)...Usually fine though, you can tell if it's been tight enough not to leak because the olive will have bit into the brass Faro end enough to indent it so the olive can't be removed and is gripping tightly to the brass, then it's just a case of the olive being tight enough to the inside of the female fitting (which it will be if it's been tight enough to indent the brass Faro fitting)... Fit and tighten then remove to check the bite into the Faro fitting then refit/re-tighten.

Assuming 12mm fittings for 8mm copper pipe equivalent.

I had pictured a 90degree Faro to Faro connector, don't think I've ever used one but had thought they were available.

In the end I went for the straight threaded connector, seemed easier after all. Thanks for your help.
