Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
bit of a rev up , but not a loaded in gear rev , it was a bit faster than i expected just on v little throttle .but it feels like it will take throttle on load no problem ...the almost total lack of brakes made it a littla bit fun just on 1200 rpm !

Without brakes nobody could blame you for not giving it some. I know what you mean, someone with a bit of experience like yourself cal tell if it'll respond with appropriate mixture when you put your foot down. 11/10 on this Rob, brilliant work!
Don't want to bog you down with the boring stuff, but how will you go about MOT etc now?

Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
If you'd read the full story you'd know. He's kept the original taxi chassis as near standard as he can so it still meets the requirements under the points system to not require an IVA test, it will retain the identity of the original taxi. It'll just have a change of body type, engine and fuel. So it will go for a normal MoT but emissions will be based on the age of the engines or chassis, whichever is the earlier. Everything else is pretty much common sense, lights, brakes, etc will need to work but it will still be tested to the age of the chassis so anything that has been introduced since then won't be needed.LPGC wrote:Don't want to bog you down with the boring stuff, but how will you go about MOT etc now?

Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
Yeh I never did get around to reading the full thread on the other forum, I did however read as far somewhere that it's on a taxi chassis and I know about the MOT rules regards engines / chassis etc though not as well as you or (I strongly suspect!) Rob. Post here does refer to the basics of MOT but also implies the question of what remains to be done before the car will pass one.Gilbertd wrote:If you'd read the full story you'd know. Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
woof, missed this quessie ,
i need to get the exhaust system done ,then lights fitted and bonnet and tail finished .emissions should be the 3.5% and 1200 norm i think . i have to apply to dvla for a body change under the 8 points rules ...5 for chassis 2 for axles and 2 for suspension...so that gives me 9 in total .
i am working on the exhaust now .

little bit more progress ...throttle response seems good ,however , i am getting low on lpg ,is there a hose available to fill the tank from a red bottle or from another autogas tank ?

Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
Haven't seen the vids yet, will view later... I'd better do some work today! You really need a pump to shift gas from one tank to another but it can be decanted from one tank to another if the feeding tank is hotter than the receiver. Also bare in mind that the fill valve on the receiver tank should have a one way valve that takes a fair bit of difference in pressure to make open (in the tank valve itself, besides the one way valve in the bayonet fitting). It might be easier to decant via the receiver's outlet (to engine) valve rather than through the fill port, the solenoid outlet port allows excess pipe pressure to flow back into the tank even with the solenoid closed (so another one way valve only this one allows flow the opposite way) but again this will need a fair difference in pressure to make open, but you can make this one stay open to allow flow either way by powering the solenoid. Without a pump you probably won't shift much gas decanting, it relies on the pressure difference but if temperature in the feeder and receiver are the same they will have equal pressure regardless of there being one litre of liquid in the tank or half a tank full - putting warm gas into a cold tank soon warms the cold tank evening the pressure. Decnating might work better if you had an industrial scale cold store you could drive the vehicle into while keeping the filling tank in an adjacent heated swimming poolrobertXX wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsBDW-5aZNU

TinleyTech can sell you the bits to make a hose. Depending on how you intend to do it this could be inexpensive or very expensive (if you were to get something resembling a fill gun to connect to the filler valve).

Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
great info Simon ,thank you .
i suppose if the car tank is so empty it has no pressure ,then the feeding tank will push in a bit of liquid before it all equalises out ?

Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
No probs Rob.
Yeh I reckon you'll get a bit of liquid to shift, particularly since you're running a mixer system. The R90's can supply enough gas for the engine to run to some extent even when the tank contains only vapour, so would expect pressure in your tank to be lower than would be with empty tank compared to a sequential system.

Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
coolio just need a pipe with the female thread for the bottle barb on one end and the internal thread for the filler on the male other end .
Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
Hehe It didn't occur to me to use something threaded to fit the threads on the bayonet connector, which is partially why I mentioned fill guns.
Flowing via the filler and tank inlet valve will leave the one way valves pre-loads (for want of a better term) in the bayonet filler and on the tank to overcome before any fuel will flow if tank pressures are fairly close.
One of my recent DIY customers, a service engineer, reckons he made a pneumatically powered LPG diagphram type pump that works great and didn't cost much to make. I meant to ask him a few details but we'd already been talking for ages, he'd just calibrated his newly converted car and was keen to get off the phone and drive it.

oh yes i forgot the return valves .doh .
Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
quick update , i now have the v5c changed to convertible from taxi ,and approval from dvla for my body change ...WOOF.
Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
Nice one, tax it online and you can give it a test run on the road.......
What year is it shown as being made as that will affect what bits of the MoT that don't apply.

Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
it is still the taxi date Gilbert ,so 1994/95 . M reg ..... what bits will that affect ?
Re: lpg feed pipe size on 500 bhp engine.
Not a lot. It'll still need seat belts, hazard lights, rear fog and be subject to an emissions test, although it will be tested to the LPG standard which is pretty lax. As the taxi was a scrapper I though it might have been earlier, pre-75 there's no emissions test, no hazard lights or rear foglight needed.
