45p + vat is NOT the cheapest you will find.

However, 45p + vat is (only just) the cheapest in my area and (for now) is low enough for me to return to CountryWide.

If Asda roll out the York price nationwide then I may travel to them in the future. Given that my 'local' (LPG selling) Asda is more expensive (for just about everything) than the Welsh Asda stores that are < 2 hours away - I don't expect to see the York price in the south west any time soon (would be great to be proved wrong though).

Yet another example of the Poor Hard Done by Southerners getting shafted whilst the North gets it easy!
I know I'll get lots of sympathy on this forum.

This does make me wonder if the manager at ASDA York runs something truly massive on LPG

Still high at around 60p around Doncaster.

I was just noting that Countrywide were giving you a price that was competitive with the supermarkets, which is a good thing.

Birmingham still seems to be the place to be for cheap gas - I can only think it's down to demand and competition, unless there's a secret propane well in Aston

But yes I'm fortunate to live a couple miles from one of the cheapest places in UK for retailed LPG.
The guys I speak to every day whilst filling up track the prices on FillLPG.

So might be worth if they are independent or franchised informing them of the site to see if they do anything about it to bring it back in line.

Personally though all the filling stations are quite pricey around here. Only those that do LPG only with their own pumps tend to be far cheaper and react quicker.

I asked the man at the only LPG outlet within 40 miles of home this morning why LPG was still 80p.
He said he had locked into a contract for 6 months just before oil prices started to fall, and couldn't do anything about it.

Is that how it works at other fuel outlets - why has every other LPG garage in the country managed to reduce its prices, but not mine?

Competition does play a part in it as well. Look at either the isle of Wight, isle of man or northern Ireland on filllpg. It also depends where you are to some degree. Also the petrol price varies a bit. No idea on the contract question but its not unknown when dealing with companies supplying to homes off the grid to be completely fair either.

It just seems curious that making judgements about likely movements of world oil prices should be down to one small local manager. It's not as if he sits at the big table with OPEC, BP etc.

I suppose it depends on what the arrangement is. If it is a franchised petrol station rather than one owned by the petrol company and they get LPG supplies from another supplier, then the manager probably would be responsible for negotiating supply prices. If it is a Shell or BP then supplies would probably come from them, but anything else and they would come from somewhere like Flogas. If his supplier was smart enough to do a fixed price contract it is his fault for signing it.

Referencing Brians point, I'm off the grid but use oil for heating. There is a comparison website (Boilerjuice) and I will always check for a price on there before phoning my supplier. Invariably the price my supplier quotes is much higher than the Boilerjuice price so I tell them they are expensive. On every occasion, they have then dropped their price to either match it or, on one occasion, even lower. Heating oil prices have dropped too. I bought 1,000 litres at 48p per litre in November (which was cheaper than the 55p ish I'd been paying in the past) and had a email a couple of days ago to say it is now down to 35p. I'm still deciding whether to bung another 500 litres in the tank or not considering what I have will probably last me through until this time next year. I'll wait and see if it keeps dropping.......

Strange, I use Boilerjuice as check but they're usually well matched by the local suppliers - probably because there's more than one around here.

My nearest LPG outlet (on the A64) is still at 64.9. At one point that was competitive but they seem to change their prices very infrequently. I use them if I have to but judging by the highly scientific "How long does the pump take to start pumping" test - they're not doing as much trade as they did in the summer. 11p a litre difference makes it well worth the trip to ASDA if I have the time.

The Total Camstone has always been competitive, it been 47.9 for a while now, interestingly undercutting the local floga depot. That's my regular filling station, despite being a 35 mile round trip. It's still cheaper than the 64.9 at Appleby Magna which is my closest even with the extra miles to fill up.

It just goes to show what an ordinary bloke in an ordinary filling station can do. He doesn't sell millions of litres a week, he doesn't supply a fleet of thousands of taxis. And neither does he sell without making a decent profit (and why should he?). Yet still he can undercut our local BP by 35p a litre.

I had to fill up using the Texaco by me at 59.9p I almost died as it cost me above £20 to fill up.
The next place (But opening hours are poor) is 43p which is a damn site less. £6 less on my fill up. And I fill up at least twice a week.

It really does make a huge difference finding somewhere that is 40% the price of petrol. If it was only 60% the cost of petrol. Plus the drop in mpg the saving really does dwindle...

was that price at the gas station actually being charged, I filled up there last week and there was an old poster on the road side saying 50.9 but the neon sign was still saying 39.9 and it was still being charged at 39.9 at the pumps.

Don't know I've not been there its too far away from where I've been of late to make it worthwhile. I'd just noticed the update on filllpg. Would be surprised if it had jumped 11p though.
