lpg for audi 1.8t
hello there, for several years I've been running my vw t3 2.1 injection wbx powered van on lpg, an omvl vaporiser, leonardo ecu and various other mostly purchased second hand .after a few age related issues with the engine and running poorly on gas or petrol i decided to have a change.i now have an audi a3 agu 1.8t in the van.for simpler wiring i used a loom and ecu from an aeb engine, ecu has had the immobiliser omitted.its all up and running great so now its time to convert to lpg.what id like to know are opinions on the most appropriate equipment for a long lasting reliable lpg setup with the possibility of going from the standard 150hp to maybe nearer 180hp.should i get a complete kit or mix and match parts?

Re: lpg for audi 1.8t
Done a few of them. They are a little sensitive to spark plugs. You will need decent flowing injectors and reducer

Been a few years since I converted one personally but have converted quite a few over the years. More recently have sold a few DIY kits for them. I regard them as an easy conversion but as Dai Classicswede says plug sensitive.

Re: lpg for audi 1.8t
Yes. Plug sensitive indeed. I had 3 incidents last year, one in a beetle that took the coil pack out as well.
Changed the coil pack and it ate the new one as well. So I changed the plug and another coil and all was well. Other than the complete lack of profit in the job after buying new plugs, and 2 new coil packs. ;(. (Sob !)

Trailertrash, have you any more info on your bus?
I've been looking at replacing the 1.9wbx in my caravelle with a AEB code 1.8t but wondered about running it on lpg. Loads of people on the audi forms seem to say "don't, it'll ruin the engine" or "it's not worth it, you'll loose all the power" etc.

Re: lpg for audi 1.8t
People that know nothing about LPG conversions have been confirming their ignorance by saying that for years. In most cases it's bollox unless the engine has soft valve seats, in which case it needs a valve saver fitting.Zebedee wrote:Loads of people on the audi forms seem to say "don't, it'll ruin the engine" or "it's not worth it, you'll loose all the power" etc.

Re: lpg for audi 1.8t
Those people on the Audi forums are wrong - One of my customers is still running an Audi 1.8T that I converted many years ago when I mostly fitted OMVL systems. He's done well over 100000miles on LPG with no problems and ever since the conversion was done he's said it feels more powerful on LPG than on petrol.Zebedee wrote:Trailertrash, have you any more info on your bus?

There are people commenting 'don't convert to LPG it'll ruin the engine' and 'you'll lose power' on every vehicle forum but such people haven't got a clue. Half price fuel without a catch seems too good to be true for some people, so they invent catches.

Re: lpg for audi 1.8t
I've been running my bus for 4 years so far on LPG with no problems and still people tell me i'll kill the engine on LPG. Non of them have even driven an LPG converted vehicle.
Re: lpg for audi 1.8t
I was once told by a very well respected local mechanic that the engine would be scrap within 10,000 miles if I ran my Saab on LPG. When I pointed out that it had done 230,000 miles, had been converted at 20,000 and had never had the cylinder head removed, he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off.
