With li reducing why hasn't LPG dropped in cost?

Petrol is currently around £112 ish /litre, down from its high about £1.30 or more, but LPG has dropped by only a small amount.

For the Shell station I visit on my comute it has dropped form 73p to 69 p.

Any thoughts or comments?

There's a bit of discussion of this in the other active price related thread.

Petrol is 110p a litre here at Sainsbury's and Asda, and LPG is 57.7p at Asda. So LPG is coming down, except where the retailers can't compete because they're too small, or know they can cream a little off LPG sales to allow them to take a couple of pence off petrol to reduce the gap to the larger retailers who are charging less.

Bear in mind also that at the moment, a lot of petrol prices are being artificially reduced even further by the supermarkets to attract shoppers because it's the time of year when people are less reluctant to spend money. It's not all due to the reduction in the cost of crude oil, the petrol market is far more complicated than that.

Have a look at www.filllpg.co.uk you will get a much better picture of the wider area. It can pay to shop around but the general issue will be if you have few (or only one) supplier then the pricing tends to be much less competitive.

If you can get to a depot site the price may be better, maybe not. It does vary greatly depending where you are in the country as well - the map will show this better.

Current cheapest price is 45.9 for reference, but unless your close to Birmingham you probabbly won't be lucky enough to find anywhere that cheap.

Filled today at 62.9 p. A big difference from the station I pass on my commute. 45.9 i svery good.

There's always a bit of a lag, LPG prices follow the trend of petrol prices... Works out at half price but with LPG prices rising / falling after the same event with petrol prices.

Now we're reading reports from all over the country of LPG being available at 40odd pence per litre... Happy days regards fuel prices.

I've said this elsewhere on the forum in recent weeks - Petrol was recently £1.30, now it's done to £1.12 or thereabouts. At £1.30 everyone was moaning about fuel prices, I (and I presume most of us installers) were busier then converting vehicles etc. But petrol is still, as usual, twice the price of LPG, and increasingly more often LPG is available at below half the price of petrol.

I appreciate that if petrol was £3 per litre and LPG was £1.50 per litre the LPG conversion industry would be a lot busier, and if petrol was 2p per litre and LPG 1p per litre we wouldn't be doing many conversions.. But with petrol at £1.12 per litre and LPG at half the price, massive savings are still to be made by converting to LPG. Doesn't seem long ago that petrol was 80p per litre, LPG 40p per litre and we were all busy converting vehicles. Now people have become used to paying £1.30 per litre for petrol they seem to think petrol is cheap now the price has been reduced to £1.12 and don't feel the need to convert to LPG. I wonder - if petrol had never climbed to £1.30, would people still think petrol cheap at £1.12? Even at £1.12 per litre it's still very easy for even a mid sized hatchback owner who commutes to work to blow £40 per week on petrol.. Even this example modest user would save £20 per week running on LPG.. Anyone doing anything like average mileage in a small / average vehicle would still save loads of money converting to LPG.. Why settle for paying £1.12 per litre?

Well after first posting I divert my commute by a few miles and pay 13p/L less (currently 55p compared with 68p), they also have given me a loyalty card that ramps up a discount from 1 p to 10 p /litre per visit.

Factory lane industrial estate in Lostock hall has two LPG sellers. There's a pay at pump unmanned operation that's currently charging 49.9p a litre. There's also Preston Calor Centre which charges around the same.

It's dropped here in Oz from about 80c/litre (40p) to 66c/litre (33p). It was cheaper until the govt. introduced excise on LPG. It used to be excise free.

theres a surprise, the cost of the Wrexham LPG has gone down to 45p. Perhaps too many people were going elsewhere? They need to cut off another 4p before I go back there again.

Lucky you aren't in Australia. On fuelwatch website, cheapest 91RON is 77.7, but cheapest LPG is 79.7! The LPG metropolitan average is also more than average for 91RON.
