Jaguar XKR ("new shape") 4.2 supercharged AJ-V8

#1 Post by carl0s »

Anybody converted the 4.2 litre supercharged variant of the aluminium-bodied new shape XKR ?
I know the later 5.0 are direct-injection, but not the 4.2 I don't think. There's a little space-saver spare wheel well too.

Same engine as the Supercharged Range Rover L322 isn't it? In which case it should convert OK.

Yep, I believe so.
Wonder if anybody has experience of issues in terms of space, size of spare wheel well, etc.

Thinking it might be my next project in 2 - 3 years time.

Flashlube and a little petrol addition should hold it back

I've converted loads of these engines in the supercharged Rangerovers, a few Supercharged XKRs, some normally aspirated V8 XK's.
Where customers have been tech savvy I've given them the choice of a bit of petrol injection or not but always fitted an electronic Flashlube and had no problems.
Linear high flowing injectors are a must, obviously along with a high flowing reducer (I've used two reducers on some of these).
A petrol return needs to be fitted and (partly because of this) the system must be mapped by reading live fuel trims (never see the same petrol pressure running on gas with the fuel return as you would running on petrol and this obviously effects petrol injection duration).
I have a few tricks for converting these properly, such as using 5mm pipe from injectors to spuds (because 5mm will fit between the manifold and cam covers where 6mm would be trapped) - makes for short pipe runs to injectors and allows injectors to be fitted in there correct orientation and underneath the engine cover.
I don't often connect the OBD up on installs but I do on this engine.

Thanks. If I decide to do it, I may give you a shout to install some or all of it.
I may go down the route of hardened valves & seats, although the cost is an eye-watering ~£1,850 from JE Engineering. I haven't looked into it any further though.
I'd probably go for 2x KME Gold & KME Nevo Pro, since I quite like this kit.

I really need to resist the temptation though and get another couple of years out of my 545i. I've only had it on the road since February-ish having spent 6 months repairing & converting it.

I wonder what size tank will fit in the space-saver wheel well of the XKR (new shape X150)?

Not answering the question. Carl doesn't want to know whether you've done one or not, he wants to know what size tank fits.

I don't take many pics either, taken one of this supercharged Rangerover I did. This one has a couple of MJ reducers, I probably wouldn't fit the same reducers in future (have fitted different reducers since) but works really well, runs 100% on LPG even at full power, performance and drive-ability same as petrol.
