Just put a deposit on an LPG Range Rover

I've just put a deposit on a 4.4 litre V8 Range Rover, I was considering one a while ago but went for a diesel instead in the end, unfortunately it got written off.

It's a 4.4 BMW engine one with a Prins system on it, are these usually pretty trouble free and does the BMW engine take well to LPG as I've read some of the later Jaguar engines don't.

One question I had was there is a small square fuel gauge with a button on, does the car switch from petrol to LPG itself or do you have to push the button to swap it over on a Prins system?.

I'm looking forward to enjoying the smooth,quiet V8, certainly sounds and goes a lot better than the TD6 it replaced!!.

it will switch automatically once up to temperature , the bmw engine converts very well indeed

But the Jaguar 4.2 supercharged engine doesn't convert well? X

It does if it's done properly and it MUST have a valvesaver such as Flashlube. The BMW engine is a better engine in the view of a lot of people (it's the same engine as used in the X5 and 745) but they couldn't carry on using a BMW engine after Ford bought Land Rover.

I'd heard the BMW one was better which is why I tried to avoid a later one, I was thinking of going for a TDV8 but my budget would have bought a higher mileage one and they've been know to have issues with turbos going pop.
The TD6 has a weak Gearbox, the 4.4 BMW engine with the ZF box is generally very tough and will go on forever, I knew this was the case on petrol but I wasn't sure how they took to LPG, after reading more it seems they can handle it very well too so I'm glad I've made the decision to go for one.

Also are there any good LPG location apps anyone could reccommend?.

There is only one good app and website and that is the one operated by Richard, a forum member her, and that is www.filllpg.co.uk. If you register not only do you get the website but you can update the prices on each supplier you find and add new sites so it is always up to date. There are apps for iPhone, Android and Windows phone. I use the Windows phone app on a Nokia 925 and it integrates with the Nokia satnav app so not only does it show me a map of were the nearest station is and how much it is going to cost me, I touch one button and it starts the satnav and takes me straight there. None of the others are anything like as good.

You have chosen the right model of L322. The BMW engine is very good, as you say, the gearbox doesn't self destruct after 80k miles like on the diesels and the only major problem is the front diff which should have been sorted by a modification as long as the car was serviced by an LR main dealer. The ZF box is supposedly sealed for life so doesn't need any maintenance but most people will give it a change of oil and filter at around 100k to be on the safe side. A friend has a Jag with the same box and his is approaching 150k now with no problems.

Mines got autogas SGI was converted at 17k miles now on 163k miles - just had to replace petrol fuel pump (pita as it's in the tank) car runs great on LPG loads of power and that lovely v8 burble......
