New to site but have been a L.P.G. owner of 4 cars, help req

#1 Post by Alan »

Hello All you L.P.G. drivers out there, I've had 4 cars with L.P.G. 2 as factory built, and 2 conversions. thes cars have saved me a fortune over the years, but each has had problems.
1 Omega estate convesionAG single point injection, had engine problems, not the gas system.
2 Corsa factory fit dual fuel version Kotec multi point, a brilliant car until it ran out of water, it's still in bits waiting to be fixed.
3 Astra factory fit dual fuel versionKotec multi point, a good car but only firing on 3 cylinders, no pertol or gas to no 2 cylinder.
3 Hyundai Trajet with a PRINS multi point ECM VSI-4 system fitted, this car will not run at all, there is no fuel geting to the manifold, petrol and gas are present at the injectors, but nothing is firing them. I have checked out all the usual connections/fuses/relays and all seem ok. but there are some conections I cant fathom out without a wiring diagram, I've scoured the internet for clear diagrams, but can only find some fuzzy ones on an Auzzie site. Please can someone help with wiring diagrams for the PRINS VSI-4 system. more numbers on the controler are S209 ECM VSI-4 080/70001 and E4. I cant see any diagnostic port on this system.
Thanks Alan

You might get more response by posting in the Having Problems forum rather than here. Hopefully one of the mods will be able to move your post.

If your getting fuel to both petrol & gas injectors then the first thing I would check is the key it may have lost comunication with the immobiliser and stopped firing the injectors.

Thanks Andy, I have disconnected the gas system at the injector bypass and reconnected the petrol injectors directly. The engine started immediatly and ran quite smoothly. So I'm still looking for a wiring diagram for the gas system as there seems to be 2 cables that are poked down the back of the prins controller, but these cables don't seem to have any use.
regards Alan

If you drop me a PM with an email address, I've got the Prins installation manual as a PDF file I can send to you.

Prins VSI has a seperate emulator package, which you don't seem to have found yet. There are two types - early and later/current - which are wired up differently.
In the early type, the +ve supply to the petrol injectors is also interrupted by a relay in the VSI ECU.

We could link dangly wires and "no diag port" perhaps? (of course it should have a diag port)

Hi Rossko. thanks for the post, Yes I have found the other unit, it's all seeled up and 14 cables into the underside, it say's prins 4-cyl it looks like some sort of relay system. It also looks like some of the cables could be the ones that bypass/return to the petrol injectors.

Sounds like the older style; for confirmation the injector bypass channels are red/black twisted pairs, rather than colour+colour/stripe pairs of later units. But 14 wires? Sounds like a 6-channel unit - no problem with that.

These do go wrong but only on one channel at a time.
