Going rate for LPGA Cert Check/Add to Database

Hi,

What is the going rate for getting your existing install certified and added to the database ? Mine was professionally installed back in 2006, but seems the installer was not registered with them.

Thanks. How much of that is the charge to the installer for registering on the LPGA database - as I assume this isn't free to them?

I think it is free, that's what they pay their membership subscription for (amongst other things). What you are paying for is 2 or 3 hours labour for a UKLPG member to thoroughly check your installation to ensure it meets the Code of Practice and is safe.

So what checks do they do exactly, I assumed it would be a visual inspection? 2-3hrs work seems like they must be pulling it to pieces ?

It is visual and has to be as one reason for failure is pipework run in such a way that it cannot be visually examined along it's full length. From the beginning they will be looking at filler type, positioning and fitting (for example, a filler in a plastic bumper without a steel bracket attaching it securely to the rest of the car is a fail). Tank fitting, security and venting arrangements, pipework positioning and fixing. If the pipework runs anywhere near the exhaust whether heatshields have been fitted and so on. There will be checks for leaks and finally an emissions check to make sure it is running as it should.

He will be putting his name to the fact that the installation is done properly and safe so he needs to be sure that it is.

Installers do pay a charge for each register entry to UKPLG.

Inspection hopefully involves a good pry, but can involve dismantling depending on trhe install - we need to check for things like E-markings and valve type stamps. Some are more difficult than others, but most installers charge a flat inspection fee.

Not all UKLPG installers will inspect outside jobs - I would suggest finding an inspector first, getting a quote, and then grumbling ;)

I've had 2 quotes back - £120 and £150. Seems a lot to me, and probably not worth doing to save £20-£30/year on my car insurance - my current insurer just needs proof that it was professionally installed (nothing relating to LPGA).
