2005 BMW X5 Engines Best Suited to LPG

#1 Post by david1972 » Thu Jan 19, 2017 8:26 pm

Hello everybody,

I'm hoping you can help me with a query. I don't have an LPG converted car yet, but am considering it in the future. I think I've narrowed it down to 2 options - a 2005 L322 Range Rover with the 4.4 BMW lump and a 2005 BMW X5.

My question is this:

Do any of you know which (if any) of the 3 petrol engines on offer for this X5 are most suited to LPG conversion - the 3.0, the 4.4 or the 4.8?

Are any of these totally unsuitable for any reason either?

Thank you in anticipation

David

The 4.4 X5 engine is the same one as fitted to the L322 and converts well. I thought the only 3.0 litre X5 was a diesel but may be wrong (it has been known on the odd occasion) and I've no idea on the 4.8.

There are 3L petrol X5s in manual or auto, I've converted a lot of them and these all run well, but the 3L is more difficult for the average installer to get good results on than the 4.4.

Someone phoned me last week to ask the same question as OP, answer was same as Gilbert's here.

Thanks both - sounds like the 4.4 is the best option for both cars

If I were to buy an X5 it would be a 4.4
