Lexus LS400 OMVL Dream 21 N Piro problem

#1 Post by shayabusa34 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 10:23 pm

Hi can anyone help me please?
I have a 1999 lexus ls400 fitted with OMVL dream 21 piro gas system. No recent lpg service history and the car has only just come to me with no prior knowledge.
Car starts and runs fine on petrol and switches onto gas after a mile or so.
Shortly afterwards it switches back to petrol and will only run on gas if I force it (hold switch for a couple of seconds). Even then as soon as I give it any reasonable amount of throttle it switches back to petrol again, and I have to force it back to gas. On the motorway with cruise control set to 70 ish mph and on the flat road the gas will stay on but hit a incline it switches back to petrol. Am I right in thinking the filters are the best place to start? A solenoid issue maybe? Also, if I do change the filters myself do I need to shut the lpg off manually or is it shut off whilst the engine is turned off? I dont want to have gas leaking everywhere. Please excuse my ignorance if I sound a bit of a numpty, I havent dealt with lpg before.
Also there are no beeps or sounds coming from the system.
The system was fitted in 2007 at 108k miles. The car has just turned 144k miles.
Simon.

Most likely a faulty pressure sensor. The Piro sensor was plagued with problems and most were changed to the AEB 025 one. If your sensor does not say AEB 025 then that is the first thing I would try without software.

Hmm I converted quite a few LS400's with Piros around 2007....

Question for Dai, this just reminded me, I've got a dead 8cyl Piro ECU and loom etc, not had a look inside it yet, any common failures inside the ECU?

Trace the pressure pipe off the end of one of the injector rails to or you can trace the vacuum pipe from the vapouriser to it. The installer could have positioned it anywhere.

What kind of dead is it? There were a number of failure issues with Piro ECU's

Simply as though the fuse has been removed, no lights on switch, ECU draws no power, completely dead.

It was one I fitted on a customer's American pickup when Piros first came out. The customer ran it for a year then left it stood outside at a farm for over a year without a battery fitted. I wondered if they suffered from damp ingress or had some sort of internal battery backup or something? I know the usual AEB boards but not the Piros.
